On the morning 0f 10 April, the opening ceremony of the 28th Cycling Competition for Ho Chi Minh City’s Television Cub – 2016 took place in Ha Noi. This year’s tournament drew 78 cyclists from 13 clubs, including VUS – Ho Chi Minh city, Mathnasium – Ho Chi Minh city, Hat Ngoc Troi – An Giang, Bao Ve Thuc Vat – An Giang, Domesco – Dong Thap, Dogarlic – Dong Thap, Military Zone No, 7th, the Military Forces, Vinh Long, Ha Noi, Ben Tre, VTV Can Tho and và BTV Binh Duong.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh People’s Committee Le Van Khoa affirmed that This competition was organized on an annual basis in order to encourage the physical and sports movement in Ho Chi Minh city as well as the whole country. With the itinerary running throughout the country, this contest would also aim at introducing image and attractiveness of the cycling sports to all bike – lovers in every corner of the country, especially whereby cycling sports movement was not yet in place.
According to the plan, this year’s cycling competition consisted of 19 sections, starting from Ha Noi Capital through Ha Nam, Ninh Binh, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Phu Yen, Khanh Hoa, Ninh Thuan, Lam Dong, Dong Nai provinces and finishing at the Reunification Hall – Ho Chi Minh cityon 30 April.
Scramblers speeding up to the Finish
Right after the opening ceremony, cyclists began to scramble for the first stage of 25 laps around Hoan Kiem lake (Ha Noi). Ending this, Nguyen Thanh Tam, athlete of Hat Ngoc Troi group had outstandingly finished in 56.58’, winning the yellow shirt. The runner-up was Tran Duc Tam, athlete also from Hat Ngoc Troi – An Giang and the third was Le Van Dung from VUS – Ho Chi Minh city.
The tourrnament with the title “ Mountains and rivers – One strip Homeland” was one of the major cultural sporting activities in responding to the success of the 12th National Party Congress, the 41st anniversary of complete victory over the South for national reunification (30 April 1975 – 30 April 2016), the 40th anniversary of renaming Sai Gon – Gia Dinh as Ho Chi Minh city, the 130th anniversary of the International Labour Day the 1st May, the 126th anniversary of Ho Chi Minh’s Birth Day (19 May1890 – 19 May 2016) and in celebration of the poll of National Assembly deputies of 14th legislature and members of People’s Council at all levels for 2016-2021 term.
Also at the opening ceremony, the Sponsor of Dong A Sheet Metal Maker presented gift pieces worth of 60 millions dong to 30 underprivileged pupils in Ha Noi Capital. It was informed that throughout the entire cycling competition, this Sponsor would continue its philanthropic programmes worth over 1 billion dong to give to those youngsters who were living under extremely difficult situations.
