Over the years, the landscape of Soc Son district has had many positive changes. Streets, alleys, public areas of communes and towns are getting brighter, greener, cleaner and more beautiful. Contributing to that common achievement is the active participation of the District Women’s Union (WU). Notable projects are: the project “Standard green, clean, beautiful, self-governing flower route” for the period of 2019 – 2021; the project “Soc Son women classify and treat household waste and start a business from organic waste in the period of 2021 – 2023”; model “Say no to burning method, join hands to protect the environment”. The project “Standard green, clean, beautiful, self-governing flower route” (period 2019 – 2021)”… was highly appreciated by district leaders, with the active participation of officials and members, thereby creating a ripple effect into the community. Moreover, the project “Standard green, clean, beautiful, self-governing flower route” (period 2019 – 2021) has been implemented in 100% of communes and towns. The whole district has built 83 standard flower roads and 88 flower roads with a total length of over 40km; Officials and union members contributed thousands of working days and funds with a total value of over 2 billion VND (In 202, the Union has built 52 new green – clean – beautiful – self-governing flower routes). The flower roads have contributed to changing the appearance of the rural landscape in the direction of green – clean – beautiful, basically solving the backlog of garbage, bringing a healthier living environment to the community.
The project “Soc Son women classify and treat household waste and start a business from organic waste in the period of 2021 – 2023” has been implemented by the district Women’s Union to 100% of communes and towns in the area. The Women’s Union of Soc Son district has selected and organized 6 training sessions for members at 2 selected unit that would be treated as model, Yem hamlet (Dong Xuan commune) and Tan Phu hamlet (Phu Cuong commune) on how to classify domestic waste and creating IMO bio-products to treat organic waste at households with simple and easy-to-find materials; distributed more than 2,000 propaganda leaflets on how to classify and treat organic waste at home. From the models, the district Women’s Union has continued to replicate in 26 communes and towns in the area with the goal that by 2023, each commune, town, each unit has registered and built one model hamlet, 1 model school, 1 model co-op or 1 model farm and replicates them if the results are acceptable. In addition, the district Women’s Union continued to propagate and organize training, guiding on waste classification at households, providing knowledge to support women in creating commercial products from organic waste at the units that have been registered as model; training on solutions to use organic waste to process fertilizers, organic plant protection drugs, and animal feeds from farming production for registered co-op and farms; organized fairs to introduce and promote start-up products from organic waste.
The model “Say no to burning method, join hands to protect the environment” has been deployed to 25 communes. Through training courses, propaganda and encouragement, officials, members and people in 25 communes in the district have changed their awareness, actions and habits. The case of burning straw after each harvest has decreased remarkably. Farmers were instructed on the technique of composting rice straw into organic fertilizer, which helps reducing smoke and dust that cause environmental pollution, at the same time help developing a clean and sustainable agriculture. In the district, 52 environmental protection groups have been established in 26/26 communes and towns, collecting plant protection drug packaging on the entire agricultural land area of the district.The district has built 25 waste storage tanks in many fields, collected more than 10 tons of waste of plant protection drug packaging, cleaned more than 12,000m of canals. Some communes that do well in the environmental protection movement are: Phu Minh, Phu Cuong, Thanh Xuan, Tan Dan…
Flower roads adorn the living space
In order to create and maintain the green – clean – beautiful landscape, the conduct of general environmental sanitation has been maintained by the Women’s Union of Soc Son district. Every year, all levels of the Women’s Union of Soc Son district effectively conduct general environmental sanitation campaigns. In the past 5 years, 1,520 general cleaning sessions and over 7,000 weekly cleaning sessions have been conducted, hundreds of tons of waste have been collected; remove 100% of garbage dump, turn 15 garbage place into flower spots, maintain the quality of 212 green – clean – beautiful women’s self-managed roads. In addition, all levels of the Union in the district have effectively built and implemented 40 models of “Green, clean and environmentally friendly community spots”; 67 models of “Women change behavior in food safety”, model of “Clean field” in 25 communes.
