Celebrating more than 800 excellent students of the capital city of the 2017-2018 school year

In the morning of May 19, the capital city’s education and training sector held the “Ceremony for commemorating the capital city’s excellent students of the 2017-2015 school year”. Attending the ceremony were Mrs. Nguyen Thi Tuyen, Member of Standing Committee of City Party Committee and Chairwoman of City Labor Confederation; Mr. Nguyen Huu Do, Deputy Minister of Education and Training; and Mr. Ngo Van Quy, Vice Chairman of Hanoi People’s Committee.

In the school year 2017 – 2018, the size of the educational sector of Hanoi continues to be stable and develops rapidly. Currently, the city has 2,641 schools with over 1.8 million students, an increase of 58 schools and over 134 thousands students compared to the same period in the last year. The education and training sector has been active in making innovations in teaching and learning and in examinations and admissions and enhancing the application of information technology in the management of guidance and management of scores and electronic study records. School facilities and teaching aids have been invested in a standardized, synchronous, and modern manner. The construction of schools of national standards has been paid attention. Pre-schools and primary schools of national standard have exceeded 37 schools compared to target. The rate of primary school students able to attending 2 sessions per day has reached 95.8%, rising by 1.7% over the previous school year.

Hanoi’s students continue to lead the country in terms of number of exam returns scoring 10 in the 2017 national high school exam with 621 exam returns. 95% of Hanoi’s students scores floor score or above. In international contests, Hanoi’s students win 138 awards and medals of several kinds.

In his speech at the ceremony, Vice Chairman of Hanoi People’s Committee Ngo Van Quy recognized and appreciated the innovations of the education and training sector in the direction of teaching and learning in a holistic and comprehensive manner. The city leaders congratulated more than 800 honored students in the 2017 – 2018 school year and gave special praise to those with outstanding achievements in learning and training despite difficult living conditions.

The Vice Chairman noted that the achievements obtained by the education and training sector were very honorable and worth to be proud of. However, with the upcoming needs for development of the capital city and the country, the education and training sector should continue to strive more to meet the requirements set out by the city and the central government. In particular, the sector should maintain the well-rounded implementation of the reform of education in the spirit of Resolution 29/NQ-TW of the Central Executive Board, building new models of education and training and outstanding examples to be replicated in the whole sector. The sector was also asked to invest in the building of schools with priority given to areas where schools are lacking, school staff and students have to learn in other places or where schools of national standard are lacking. The building of toilets, green trees, and green, clean and beautiful teaching and learning environment was also required to be paid attention to.

The sector should also give priority to fostering excellent national and international students while improving the quality of mass education, implement effectively the “General education curriculum” approved by the Ministry of Education and Training on July 28, 2017, gradually remove the differences in the quality of education among regions within the city, promote the use of information technology in management, especially in innovation of teaching and learning methods associated with building electronic school, focus on teaching foreign languages, especially English, create equal opportunities for access to education, especially for poor children and children in remote areas, further expand international cooperation in the field of education and training, efficiently implement the international integration in education, continue the effective implementation of the pilot double program of Vietnamese high school diploma and UK high school diploma – A Level certificate, etc. The Vice Chairman believed that the education and training sector, especially teachers and students at all levels, would continue to deliver new developments and obtain more excellent achievements.

At the ceremony, on behalf of leaders of the Party and State, leaders of the Ministry of Education and Training and the City People’s Committee gave Prime Minister’s certificates of merit to two students of Hanoi-Amsterdam High School for the Gifted who won gold medals at International Olympiad contests and Hanoi People’s Committee Chairman’s certificates of merit to 11 students who won international medals. 47 students who obtained first, second, and third prizes in national contests for excellent students also received certificates of merit from the Minister of Education and Training and 40 other students received certificates of merit from the Director of Hanoi Department of Education and Training.
