Not resigned to the rule of the Eastern Han, in 40 (AD), the Trung Sisters raised the flag of resistance calling for heroes and citizens from all over the country to stood up and overthrow the yoke of the Eastern Han’s domination, regained independence for the country, and proclaimed themselves queens (40 – 43 AD).

Hanoi Vice Chairman Ngo Van Quy delivered his speech at the ceremony.

The vice chairman of the city emphasized that the Trung Sisters’ uprising, though only brought independence to the country for nearly 3 years, had great significance; it was the first uprising in the nation’s heroic history of resistance against the yoke of foreign domination and a shining symbol of patriotism, bravado, and fierceness of the nation. To commemorate and express the gratitude to the merits of the two national heroines, the people of Me Linh and the city of Hanoi established Hai Ba Trung temple in Me Linh commune, Me Linh district, Hanoi city.

The Vice Chairman stated that the Party Committee, authorities, and citizens of the Capital City had continuously strived in recent years to obtain remarkable and comprehensive achievements in socio-economic development, contributing to building and defending the Fatherland. With an aim to promote the obtained achievements, in 2020, Hanoi City is determined to initiate innovation and promote solidarity and leadership to strive to fulfill the socio-economic targets and ensure national security and defence to build an increasingly rich, beautiful, civilized, and modern Capital City worthy of the merits of the Trung Sisters.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mrs. Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh, Member of the Party Central Executive Committee, Vice President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, affirmed that the Trung Sisters Uprising was of immensely great importance with echoes resonating throughout the nation’s long history. The Trung Sisters and their uprising left behind spiritual heritage and an invaluable lesson about the cause of national liberation and the promotion of the strength of the people’s great unity, including the strength, intellect, and fighting spirit of women. That also gave way to President Ho Chi Minh’s gifting to Vietnamese women the golden words “Heroic, Indomitable, Faithful, Laborious”, qualities that were preserved and developed by generations of Vietnamese women.

Mrs. Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh, Member of the Party Central Executive Committee, Vice President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, delivered her speech at the ceremony.

The Vice President believed that, in 2020, with the leadership of the Hanoi City Party Committee, the determination and activeness of the authorities at all levels, and the huge support from the masses, officers, Party members, and citizens of the Capital City would uphold the Trung Sisters’ spirit; promote the learning and following of President Ho Chi Minh’s ideology, morality, and style; and unite to create a synergy to build an increasingly developed Capital City.
