“Decoration of flowers and ornamental trees for Spring in the Year of the Dog 2018” contest: New look for the Capital

To serve  activities on the occasion of the 88th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of Vietnam (03/02/1930 – 03/02/2018) and the Lunar New Year in 2018; to follow the instruction of the Hanoi People’s Committee on the decoration of ornamental and flowering plants, the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports has piloted..

To serve  activities on the occasion of the 88th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of Vietnam (03/02/1930 – 03/02/2018) and the Lunar New Year in 2018; to follow the instruction of the Hanoi People’s Committee on the decoration of ornamental and flowering plants, the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports has piloted the “Decoration of flowers and ornamental trees for Spring in the Year of the Dog 2018” contest in Hanoi City thành from 09th to 21st of February 2018 (Lunar December 24th to the Lunar January 6th).

On February 08, 2018, the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports has decided to set up Organizing Board, Jury and Advisory Group to inspect, evaluate and supervise the “Decoration of flowers and ornamental trees for Spring in the Year of the Dog 2018” contest to acquire its contents, objectives and requirements as follows: Beautifying the landscapes of the Capital on the occasion of Lunar New Year, helping to protect the environment, building the green, civilized, modern and eco-friendly lifestyle in urban area; acting as the practical and meaningful activity for the local people to gradually improve their awareness, actively participate in environmental protection, planting more trees and flowers with voluntariness, community responsibility and widespread nature; propagating and encouraging people in the area to participate in the contest with the slogan: “Each family plants a flower to welcome the Lunar New Year”, contributing to the “All people unite to build cultural life” movement.
With the serious urgency, on February 11, 2018, the Organizing Board, Jury and Advisory Group held the first meeting session to agree upon the criteria and contents of evaluation and marking, and evaluation of roads in Ha Dong District which is decorated with flowers and ornament plants.
Through the inspection of contents displayed in Ha Dong District,the  Organizing Board, Jury and Advisory Group recognized the sense of responsibility and strict compliance with the direction of the city leaders in decorating with ornamental plants on the To Hieu street in Ha Dong district (in front of the headquarter of Party Committee, the People’s Committee, the People’s Council of Ha Dong District) with more than 120 flower crocks in all kinds and nearly 100m2 bacground and carpeting flowers carried out by Ha Dong Environment Public Service Joint Stock Company.
Pro. Dr.Sc Tran Duy Quy, Vice Chairman of Hanoi City Ornamental Creatures Association, as the Head of the Jury evaluated: “The carpeting, background flowers and flowerpots selected by the units are diverse in term of colors, types, with high longevity and originated from Vietnam; decoration is harmonious; Decorative theme “Happy Party, Happy Spring” is highlighted and clear; the units have had a great deal of creativity in combination of view and shaping and use of substrates and auxiliary materials.

Ms. Do Kim Oanh, Director of Hanoi Exhibition – Information Center notes the the units must pay attention to caring the flowers to ensure their freshness and green leaves and maintain the aesthetic requirements during decoration period for the Spring and Lunar New Year. “In order to raise the sense of community responsibility and effectiveness on the protection of environmental landscapes and urban civilization, the units should arrange additional bulletin boards “no picking” as well as mobilize businesses, collectives and individuals in the exhibition area to participate in the spirit of socialization”, emphasized Ms. Do Kim Oanh.

According to Plan of February 13th, 2018, the Organizing Board, Jury and Advisory Group checked and evaluated other districts in the city to ensure the progress, quality and requirements of the contest as instructed by the Hanoi City People’s Committee. Along with the decoration with lights, panels, banner, the decoration with flowers and ornamental trees on the streets, piloted in some urban districts, brings a new look to the Hanoi capital during the Lunar New Year in 2018..

The flowers selected are diverse in term of colors and interposed flowers and buds at the reasonable ratio to ensure beauty and longevity.
