At the Government’s routine press conference on 30 August, in answering to the question on the F1 Grand Prix due to be held in Ha Noi, Minister – Chairman of the Government’s Office Mai Tien Dung said: The Prime Minister has agreed to the holding of the event.

“On that principle, the Prime Minister has completely agreed that Ha Noi should have the international event like F1 Grand Prix in order to attract international tourist arrivals, to promote the Capital’s image as well as Viet Nam. He also termed that F1 Grand Prix secion will be held in Viet Nam and the venue selected will be in Ha Noi. Former managing director of F1 Mr. Bernie Ecclestone also pointed out that Viet Nam has been ready for the Grand Prix to take place. However, to be allowed to hold a section of F1, according to the criteria required for the host, the physical facilities needed are hotels, restaurants…of at least five star standards, furthermore it must prove its professional hosting capability and more important is that will be able to help F1 build and develop its bandname.
