Countries have introduced measures to limit movement as part of the effort to reduce the number of people infected with COVID-19, many of whom are making major changes to their daily routines.

Adapting to changes during the course of the epidemic, managing the fear of infection, and worrying about the risks from the disease are challenging for all of us. Here are some helpful tips from the World Health Organization (WHO) for maintaining your life with many habits that need to change during the epidemic.

Listen to advice and recommendations from national and local governments; follow reliable news channels, such as local and national television and radio; stay up to date with the latest news from health authorities on social media.

Create habits: Maintain daily routines as much as possible: wake up and go to sleep at similar times each day; keep personal hygiene; eat healthy meals at set times; exercise regularly; allocate working time and rest time rationally.

Minimize harmful news: Try to reduce the amount of viewing, reading, or listening to news that makes you feel worried or distressed; find the latest information at specific times of the day, once or twice a day if needed.

Social contact is important: If travel is limited, keep in constant contact with people close to you through phone and online channels.

Limit the amount of alcohol you drink or, better yet, don’t drink; don’t start drinking if you’ve never had alcohol before; avoid using alcohol and drugs as a way to deal with fear, anxiety, boredom, and social isolation; there is no evidence of any protective effects of alcohol consumption on viruses or other infections.

Screen time: Be aware of how much time you spend before the screen each day; make sure you take regular breaks from activities in front of the screen.

Video games: Although video games can be a way to relax, be sure to keep a balance with offline activities in your daily routine.

Social media: Use your social media accounts to spread positive stories and hopes; correct false information wherever you see it.

Help others: If you can, provide support to people in your community

Support health workers: Use the opportunity online or through your community to thank your country’s health care workers and everyone who works to respond to COVID-19.

Be kind: Do not discriminate against people out of your fear of the spread of COVID-19.

Do not discriminate against those who you think may be infected with the virus.

Do not discriminate against health workers; they deserve respect and gratitude.
