A press conference held to introduce Hue Festival 2018 in Hanoi

In the last half of December 19, 1974, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Information and Communications and the People’s Committee of Thua Thien-Hue Province, held a press conference in Hanoi to introduce the 10th Hue Festival 2018 with the theme “Cultural heritage in the context of integration and development, Hue – one destination with five heritages”. The festival will take place from April 27th to the end of May 2nd, 2018.

According to the Organizing Committee, Hue Festival 2018 will be held on a national and international scale, highlighted by various outstanding art performance programs which represent the different cultures from all over the world. The 10th Hue Festival 2018 will introduce to the public and international friends the quintessence of Hue traditional art culture and Hue imperial palace, especially the cultural resources of the five UNESCO-recognized world heritages, namely Hue imperial city (Complex of Hue monuments), Vietnam royal court music, Wood blocks of the Nguyen Dynasty, Vermillion records of the Nguyen Dynasty, Literature on Hue Royal Architecture, and Bai Choi singing which was recognized by UNESCO as the Intangible World Heritage in December  2017.

It is expected that Hue Festival 2018 will be attended by 20 international art troupes from South Korea, Israel, Mongolia, Japan, Thailand, China, the Philippines, the UK, Denmark, Russia, France, Spain, Belgium, Slovakia, Brazil, and so on, contributing their attractive performances to the multi-cultural art program.

Hue Festival 2018 will introduce many special art performance programs such as Program “Cultural tradition of capital city”, Ao Dai Festival, Trinh Cong Son music program, Art program of Thua Thien-Hue Buddhism “The shining faith”, street art program “Colors of culture”, “Hue songs” program, etc.

Unlike the previous festivals, the program “Cultural tradition of capital city” is added to Hue Festival 2018 and implemented by the Hue Monuments Conservation Centre. The program is elaborately and profoundly designed on a large scale based on the program “Hue Imperial Palace by night” in order to honor the five world cultural heritages and celebrate the 25th anniversary of recognition of Complex of Hue monuments as World Cultural Heritage by UNESCO. Hue Festival 2018 will be the first festival in which the organizing committee holds the program “Van and Chau Van singing festival”.

 

Within the framework of the festival, there will be community cultural activities such as: International Food Festival, International Trade Fair – Hue Festival 2018, Festival “Ancient village”, Festival “Rural market on high-days, Festival “The Wave of Tam Giang”, Hue Poetry Festival, Festival “Colorful childhood”, Festival of traditional boat racing on Huong River, Hue Kite Festival, Calligraphy activities, Exhibition “Literature on Hue royal architecture through Truc Chi art”, Exhibition “Institute of Royal Physicians in Nguyen dynasty expressed through vermillion records”, tours, community tourism, and ecotourism for exploring the unique beauty of Hue.

Hue Festival 2018 is an important event to celebrate the great anniversary of Hue in 2018 such as: the 230th anniversary of Nguyen Hue’s throne ascension ceremony at Ban mountain (1788-2018); the 25th anniversary of recognition of Complex of Hue monuments as World Cultural Heritage by UNESCO (1993-2018); the 15th anniversary of recognition of Vietnam royal court music by UNESCO as intangible cultural masterpieces of humanity (2003-2018).
