Before SEA Games 30 in 2019, athlete Bui Thi Thu Thao asked to withdraw from the competition to prepare for motherhood. From the beginning of 2021, Thu Thao returned to Hanoi Sports Training and Competition Center in the new role of a trainer of Hanoi athletes, and at the same time returned to the top training plan to prepare for the tournament.

Since the beginning of October this year, Bui Thi Thu Thao has been trained with Hanoi athletics. However, to help Thao regain the best feeling to prepare for the SEA Games 31 and beyond, ASIAD 19, Hanoi Sports Training and Competition Center “sends” her to Hanoi National Sports Center to be trained with the national team.

Practicing at Nhon headquarters in the form of “sending” because the plan to summon the national team in 2021 was already prepared, so Thao did not have a name. And although she just returned to practice, Thu Thao quickly regained the form of a continental champion. Thao has caught up with the high training intensity of a professional athlete, despite many difficulties after her maternity.

Returning to the competition at the National Athletics Championships 2021 after more than a year of maternity, Bui Thi Thu Thao won a gold medal in the long jump. In the women’s long jump final on the afternoon of December 9, 2021, with 10 athletes competing, Thao finished the match in first place with a record of 6m27 to win gold. Behind Bui Thi Thu Thao are Vu Thi Ngoc Ha (Ha Nam, 6m07) and Ha Thanh Thuy (Lang Son, 5m95), respectively.

The achievement of 6.27m, although not equal to 6.55m, helped Hanoi athletes win a gold medal at the 2018 ASIAD championship in Indonesia 3 years ago and has not been able to break Thao’s own national record set in 2017 of 6m68, but this is a good sign to mark the return of this athlete.

The gold medal at the 2021 National Championships in Athletics has shown the efforts of Bui Thi Thu Thao when returning to competition. With her determination to return, this Hanoi athlete will firstly try to practice and compete in the national competition well to be able to attend ASIAD in 2022 and SEA Games 31 in May 2022. Her goal is to win gold at home in May next year and win a medal at ASIAD in 2022.
