Implementing the guidelines of the Hanoi Municipal Party Committee to compile a profile of the great man Chu Van An to request the UNESCO to commemorate the anniversary, to prepare to build the profile of the great man Chu Van An to send to the authorities for evaluation before submitting to the UNESCO for consideration, Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports directed the Center for Cultural and Scientific Activities Van Mieu – Quoc Tu Giam to hold the Scientific Seminar entitled “Chu Van An – Personal Background and Achievements”.

Chu Van An was born in 1292, in Quang Liet village, Thanh Dam district (now Van village), Thanh Liet commune, Thanh Tri district, Hanoi. He died in 1370 at Phuong Hoang mountain, Chi Linh town, Hai Duong province. His pseudonym is Linh Triet, his pen-name is Tieu An, his real name is Mr. Khang Tiet, the title is Van Trinh Cong. He is the Principal of Quoc Tu Giam, directly teaching the Prince and was ordained here right after his death. The life of Chu Van An attached to teaching, being a teacher in three places: his hometown Thanh Liet (Thanh Tri), Quoc Tu Giam and Chi Linh (Hai Duong), and bequeathing a perfect example of ethics and intelligence and spirit, responsibility to the country. After his death, there are 12 places of worship; His name is set for 50 schools, 33 roads, streets spreading across the country.

Chu Van An – a person who always “keeps his nose clean, stands his ground, never seeks for fame and fortune”; a great man of culture in the field of Vietnam education, a model teacher, throughout his life attached to the cause of teaching people to cultivate people, serving the country, not seeking for fame and fortune, always keeping integrity and probity. Throughout generations, the Vietnamese have always honored Chu Van An as the Model Teacher of all life. He was the head of the highest education center in Vietnam – the Principal of Quoc Tu Giam, he had many pupils later become the talents of the country. He is a life-long educator with education method regardless of background; combining learning and practice, self-thinking, discovering the truth. The educational philosophy of humanity, which recognizes the educational potential of learning of all human beings and human beings must be educated to become a comprehensive human being; education is to teach human beings the behavior so that they can live in harmony with others under any circumstance.

The presentations in the Seminar focused on clarifying Chu Van An’s homeland and family; Personal Background and Achievements; The contributions of Chu Van An to the culture and education of Vietnam. And most importantly, the orientation of building the profile of the great man Chu Van An to request the UNESCO to celebrate the 650th anniversary of his death.
