SEA Games 31 opens in Hanoi on May 12, 2022

On November 2, 2021, at the Government headquarters, Deputy Prime Minister, Vu Duc Dam chaired a meeting of the National Steering Committee on the preparation of the 31st Southeast Asian Games (31st SEA Games) in Vietnam. The meeting was attended by the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism and leaders of the Hanoi People’s Committee.

 

The 31st SEA Games will be held in Hanoi and other provinces and cities from May 12 to 23, 2022.

After reported by the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the leaders of the Hanoi People’s Committee, as well as considering the opinions of the members attending the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam agreed to the time of organization of the 31st SEA Games as proposed by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism from May 12-23, 2022.

At the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam directed the Hanoi People’s Committee to preside over and coordinate with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and relevant agencies to proactively develop a plan to organize the opening and closing ceremony of the 31st SEA Games, ensuring solemnity and thrift. In addition, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism should assume the prime responsibility for, and coordinate with the Ministry of Health, the People’s Committee of Hanoi and relevant agencies in formulating a plan to organize the 31st  SEA Games in accordance with the requirements of the Ministry of Health. COVID-19 pandemic, including contingency plans in case of complicated outbreaks in some venues where competitions are held.

Also under the direction of Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism is responsible for summarizing and reporting to the Head of the Steering Committee on the consolidation of the Steering Committee; deciding on the establishment of the Subcommittee for the opening and closing of the 31st SEA Games.

Thus, after the organization time is closed, the organizers of the 31st SEA Games will have a meeting to notify the Olympic Committees of the participating countries. The tournament schedule is also being recalculated, especially with important milestones in preparation such as technical meetings or athlete registration deadlines.
