Canh Hoach hamlet (alias Vac hamlet), belonging to Dan Hoa commune, Thanh Oai district is a fertile countryside, once known as a toy-making place exclusively for children namely lantern, paper fan, and bird cage in recent years.

Canh Hoach hamlets has its own famous historical cultural tradition, with the two feudal firtst doctoral candidates they are Nguyen Duc Luong and Nguyen Thien – feudal high-ranking officials. Canh Hoach hamlet’s main festival is held on the lunar 12th March at Canh Hoach communal house, formerly called the communal house of Dun, whereby its use was shared by 5 commues.

Canh Hoach hamlets presently wellknown for bird cage making

The festival of Canh Hoach hamlet takes place from 11-13 March (lunar calendar). On the lunar 12th March (main festival), the old people hold a tribute offering ceremony in which people in the village present a salty tributes of pig face and a board of full sticky rice.  On the lunar 13rd March, all hamlets of the village flock to the communal house to pay thanksgivings with vegetarian food like incense, flower, fruit and sticky rice cake,.. and hold folk games as chess playing, traditional opera (Cheo singing) on the communal house’s courtyard. On the afternoon, after the seeing-off rite finishes, villagers take the joss stick burning jars of the two feudal doctoral candidates to the former place of worship.

The festival of Canh Hoach village is one of the biggest in the region. The pickup ceremony of the first doctoral candidate Nguyen Duc Luong and martial mandarin Nguyen Quyen is a unique cultural symbol for the hightening of traditional fondness of learning and spirit of martial sportmanship in the village. Asides from that, the elements within the festival help commemorate the tutelary gods of the village (under the reigns of the King of Hung and Tran), and the pickup of a paper fan to honour the village craft constitutes a unique cultural feature helping Canh Hoach village’s festival become more eventful and appealing to the community in the area.
