At the Press Briefing Conference of the Hanoi Party Committee on the afternoon of January 7th, 2020, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports – Ms. Bui Thi Thu Hien said that Hanoi would organize firework displays and many cultural, artistic and sports activities in the city for the people to enjoy the Spring and celebrate the Lunar New Year 2020 – the Year of Mouse.
In particular, during this holiday, the City will implement lighting decoration at 10 routes including Dien Bien Phu, Ba Trieu, Trang Tien, Trang Thi, Hang Bai, Ngo Quyen, Thanh Nien, Ly Thuong Kiet, Phan Chu Trinh, and Phan Dinh Phung streets.
6 fixed panel cluster will be installed in the urban and gateway areas at Tran Nhan Tong Street, Giang Vo-Cat Linh intersection, Phu Xuyen district, Chuong My district, Xuan Mai town and Ngoc Hoi district, 6 others installed at DEAWOO Hotel Intersection, Dai Co Viet – Le Duan intersection, Nga Tu So, Hoang Liet street opposite Nuoc Ngam bus station, O Cho Dua intersection, National Highway 1A in Ninh Hiep commune, Gia Lam district.
Apart from 10 double-sided panel clusters decorated at the median strip on routes in the City center, there will have panels decorated at the headquarters: the City Party Committee, the People’s Council, the City People’s Committee. Also, the National Flag, the Party and Red Flag at the column system in front of the monument area of Ly Thai To, the City People’s Committee and the State Bank will be decorated.
1,000 flag stands will be installed, 2000 banners will be hung at the main routes, main streets, and the City center. And also 4 symbolic clusters in traffic islands and large squares will be kept lighting.

Units and businesses located on the main streets and central areas are encouraged to increase the decoration of lighting banners and ornamental plants on the headquarters facade. Districts and towns will be decorated and promulgated visually with panels, banners, and flag stands; people are encouraged to hang national flags solemnly and efficiently.
On this occasion, the city will host many cultural, artistic and sports activities as well. The highlight is a fireworks display combining with an art performance to celebrate the Lunar New Year in 30 central locations at districts and towns inside the City. This year, 6 high-level fireworks will be shown at Hoan Kiem Lake, Lac Long Quan Flower Garden, My Dinh National Stadium, Van Quan Lake, Thong Nhat Park, and Son Tay Town.
Besides, there is a Photo Exhibition to celebrate the Party and the Spring at the Hanoi Museum from January 6th to February 6th, 2020 and at the Exhibition House at No. 93 Dinh Tien Hoang street from January 22th to February 4th, 2020. Mobile propaganda will be implemented from January 16th to January 18th, 2020 in districts in the City. The Spring Literary Festival will start at the Temple of Literature from January 18th to February 5th, 2020.
Film screenings to celebrate the Party and Spring in districts and towns will be organized from January 24th to February 4th, 2020. The Hanoi Open Dragon Boat Racing Festival 2020 will take place in the area of Ly Tu Trong Flower Garden and the surface of West Lake (on Thanh Nien and Nguyen Dinh Thi streets). Traditional wrestling of Thach That District will run on February 10th and 11th, 2020.
Furthermore, relics such as Ngoc Son Temple, Hoa Lo Prison, Temple of Literature, and Thang Long Imperial Citadel will be decorated and opened for visitors before, during and after the Lunar New Year. Districts and towns will also organize cultural, artistic, physical training and sports activities at public places in the city for the people to enjoy the spring and celebrate the Lunar New Year 2020 – the Year of Mouse.

To prepare for the Spring Festival 2020, the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports, in addition, has advised the City People’s Committee to not only issue guiding documents and establish an inter-branch inspectorate to inspect the festival management and organization in the City but also provide plans to organize, review and inspect the overcoming of shortcomings together with limitations on the festival management, organization and violation acts occurring in festival activities such as change transfer, superstition, gambling, environmental sanitation, food safety, and service business. Inspecting and guiding establishments to implement the organization and management of the major festivals in the early Spring such as Huong Pagoda and Thay Pagoda Festival will be implemented accordingly. The Department also requested localities to have festivals, especially large festivals, festivals to attract large numbers of attendees, to build a master plan, offer proactive measures to prevent and respond to deal with the negative, arising, ensuring the meaning, nature festivals.
