The exhibition introduces 18 oil paintings, lacquer paintings, silk paintings, gouache paintings, woodcut paintings, etc. by 15 authors and groups of authors, briefly reflecting the path leading to the successful August Revolution, giving birth to the Democratic Republic of Vietnam. The historical events of the country in the period 1930-1945 and the spirit of struggle of the uprisings, revolutionary movements, and the independence day of September 2, 1945, at Ba Dinh Square, Hanoi are expressed through Works such as “Meeting of the Red Union”, “From the Dark”, “Soviet Nghe Tinh”, “Farmers’ tax resistance”, “Bac Son guerrillas returning to Binh village”, “Southern Vietnam 1940”, “Capture of Northern Government”, “August Revolution” (sketch) and “Uncle Ho reading the Declaration of Independence”.

In particular, some works at the exhibition show the image of President Ho Chi Minh at important moments in Vietnam’s revolutionary history. Typically, the work “Uncle Ho returning to Pac Bo in spring”, a gouache painting by Duong Tuan, reminds the public of the day when Uncle Ho returned to Cao Bang (January 28, 1941) after more than 30 years of seeking the way to save the country. At Pac Bo, Uncle Ho and the Central Committee of the Party made decisions and resolutions to finalize the revolutionary line of national liberation in line with the development trend of the world revolution, leading to the successful August Revolution in 1945, giving birth to the first people’s democratic state in Southeast Asia, bringing the Vietnamese people into a new era – the era of national independence associated with socialism.

With realistic and succinct visual language, “The Road to Independence” partly tells about the Vietnamese people jointly overcoming all difficulties and hardships and gain victory. From an artistic perspective, the exhibition once again contributes to affirming the great achievements of the August Revolution and the great dedications of President Ho Chi Minh, and shows a meaningful lesson in the cause of renovating the nation, integrating into the world, and overcoming current challenges.
