The movement has been participated by the whole community with determination to change the apprearance of residential areas, the citizens have been contributing to creating a clean and beautiful streets and residential groups in the capital. Besides the contest “Keeping streets green and clean, decorating the streets beautifully” launched by the City’s Department of Culture and Sports, the movement also has been maintained, spread and become a cultural feature, contributing to spread of the movement of living environment decoration among the capital citizens.
Clean and beautiful streets and blooming fences
Hang Dao ward, Hoan Kiem district is typical area of Hanoi Old Quarter with mainly people doing business and services, so the authority regularly launches propaganda, mobilization, and handling of violations related to capital security, traffic safety, communication, and environmental sanitation. The ward also propagates and mobilizes residential groups and people to actively decorate and take care of flowers in front of the house and on the balconies to build a green, clean and beautiful environment.
Secretary of the Party Committee of Hang Dao ward, Ms Le Thi My said that the ward’s authority issued 550 notices of regulations on handling administrative violations in environmental protection to 6 residential groups. The groups in charge of distributin directly to each household and commit to maintain environmental hygiene, disposing of garbage on time, and in the right place.
The ward has completely dissolved two garbage dumps at 56 Hang Can and 61 Hang Ngang, then turned them into small flower gardens that both maintaining environmental hygiene and creating beautiful spaces for the streets. Six residential groups have prepared over 50 flower pots to decorate the main streets, ensuring flowers are always fresh and beautiful when display.
The Ward Youth Union launched and implemented a youth volunteer campaign to painting the electrical cabinets and walls along the Hang Dao, Hang Ngang, and Hang Duong streets.
The movement of cleaning up the environment has grown in a large scale. People removed their own roofs, stopped encroaching on sidewalks for business, and maintaining environmental sanitation. Hang Dao Ward’s authority is in the effort to build an increasingly bright, green, clean, beautiful, civilized, modern ward, and becoming a bright spot of Hoan Kiem district.
In Hoang Mai district, the District People’s Committee launched a movement “Keeping streets green and clean, decorating streets beautifully” among the local wards. All wards organized the general cleaning, decoration and beautification of roads, alleys, streets, parks, flower gardens, public places of entertainment, and monuments in the area.
People’s Committees of districts and People’s Committees of wards have taken action to handle violations of the traffic safety such as removing roofs, sloping roofs, signs, advertisements, the encroachments on sidewalks or roadways.
Besides, the weekly general environmental cleaning is regularly maintained on Friday afternoon at agencies and units and on Saturday morning in residential groups. Officials, members and citizens in the area join hands to build green, clean and beautiful streets. The district socialized the funding sources to maintain the planting of trees and flowers at the base of trees, decorate the facades of families, agencies, and companies, etc.
In Gia Lam district, 100% of communes and towns participated in the contest “Keeping streets green and clean, decorating beautiful streets.” Political system in some localities have also prepared for the contest. Duong Xa commune held a contest launching ceremony and held contests among villages and neighborhood groups in the area. Kim Son, Dang Xa, Dinh Xuyen, Phu Dong, Phu Thi, Yen Vien communes, Trau Quy town held seminars to discuss solutions to effectively implement the contest.

Chairwoman of the Women’s Union of Le Chi commune (Gia Lam district), Ms Pham Thi Diu said that the road has a total length of 1,040m with more than 400m2 of mural paintings. The association has encouraged members and people to plant and take care of flowerpots and ornamental plants in front of their houses.
In particular, the commune also encouraged families to buy, plant and take care of 50 Osaka flower trees along the route with a total amount of 50 million VND. “To raise the citizen’s awareness, the Commune Women’s Union also implemented a recycled flower path (where formerly garbage dump), guiding young people to make flower pots from recycled plastic bottles and jars. Through this activity, the Association aims to change people’s awareness of environmental sanitation, keeping streets and neighborhoods green, clean and beautiful, especially change of awareness of children.” said the Chairwoman.
Maintaining and spreading civilized lifestyle
With the active participation of grassroots organizations, the movement of beautifying roads and streets were spread to many villages and neighborhood groups, and people enthusiastically responded to the good work of socializing and embellishing environmental landscape. Propaganda and campaigning have been carried out regularly, in many forms and extensively so that people can understand the benefits of the contest “Keeping streets green, clean, and decorated beautifully”.
With the achieved results, the contest has a very practical, effective and widespread meaning in the movement of keep villages and residential groups bright, green, clean, beautiful and safe, and creating the response and participation from a large number of people.
The achieved results create a good premise for localities to continue maintaining and spreading the movement of keeping streets green, clean and beautiful, contributing to beautify roads and streets. Thanks to it, citizens has built new good habits and civilized lifestyles to keep streets green, clean and beautiful, and new models of performance were created.
The environmental landscape has been invested in embellishment, the appearance of the residential area has changed markedly. The village landscape is more beautiful, green space, village roads, clean alleys, walls and fences are painted, decorated with beautiful murals. With the criterion of ensuring safety, people are aware of not letting roofs and roofs encroach on the pavement. Security, social order and safety are ensured.
Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports, Ms Tran Thi Van Anh said that the Department has set up a team to inspect, evaluate and give marks to the alleys and streets participating in the competitions. The inspection showed that, through the implementation of the contest, the indiscriminate emission was overcome, the collection and transportation of waste was carried out regularly and continuously.
Many streets, residential areas, roads and alleys are clean and decorated beautifully, people’s awareness in keeping hygiene has been significantly improved, becoming a good habit for every citizen. This is an important premise in raising awareness and creating civilized, cultural and elegant behaviors of Hanoians.
