Through a range of practical initiatives, the women of Hanoi have strengthened the roles and responsibilities of each member and association within the Women’s Union, dedicated to preserving and promoting the cherished traditions of Vietnamese family life. This has further emphasized the role of women, both within the family and in society.

Building on the proud legacy of Vietnamese women, the women of Hanoi have made tremendous contributions to the capital’s growth and development. Notably, they have carried out numerous meaningful, effective activities aimed at shaping Hanoi citizens to embody elegance and civility, while nurturing essential family values.

With a commitment to fostering strong family structures, the Hanoi Women’s Union has proactively initiated and implemented various national programs and campaigns led by the Central Vietnam Women’s Union. Additionally, they have created numerous unique initiatives that capture the distinct spirit of Hanoi’s women. In recent years, the Union has launched a variety of programs, projects, and creative models with diverse approaches that have garnered widespread support and engagement from members across all levels. Among the standout initiatives are: the campaigns “Fostering the Modern Vietnamese Woman,” “Building Hanoi Women with Kindness, Creativity, Competence, and Elegance,” “For a Clean Environment – Women and Citizens of Hanoi Refrain from Littering in Public Spaces,” “Hanoi Women Actively Learn, Work Creatively, and Build Happy, Civilized Families,” and “Drug Prevention Starts in the Home.” They also include popular movements like “Women of Hanoi Practicing Graceful Conduct,” and the “Building 5 No’s, 3 Clean’s” family model, alongside clubs such as “Building Happy Families,” “Gender and Family,” and “Sustainable Family Development.” Other initiatives include family violence prevention programs, “Safe Haven” and “Hotline” services, and events like “Family Love Connection Day” and the “Civilized, Happy Family” competition.

To enhance awareness and a sense of responsibility among its members, the Family and Social Affairs Committee (Hanoi Women’s Union) has collaborated with district, town, and municipal Women’s Union branches to organize conferences on promoting cultural and ethical family values across Hanoi. These sessions also provide “5 No’s, 3 Clean’s” family-building information to members throughout the area. These events offer valuable resources on the Family Conduct Criteria, Vietnam’s treasured family values, and guidelines for cultivating family safety, responsibility, prosperity, and equality. They reaffirm the critical role of the Vietnamese family in today’s era of international integration, as well as the family’s significant impact on the country’s industrialization and modernization. These initiatives continually reinforce the roles and responsibilities of each Women’s Union member in preserving the values of Vietnamese family life. They emphasize women’s essential roles within the family and in society, thereby contributing significantly to national programs for advanced rural development, model rural community building, and the pursuit of a sustainable society.

Women’s Union chapters at all levels have implemented numerous innovative programs to assist members in enhancing family economic stability. These initiatives include providing financial resources, seeds, and essential knowledge to boost production and business effectiveness, ultimately raising living standards. Additionally, members receive guidance and skills on organizing family life, marital relations, respectful conduct, healthcare, child-rearing, and preventing crime and social ills within the family.

According to reports, in the first half of this term, 100% of the Union’s sub-chapters have implemented a diverse range of creative activities aimed at promoting competition movements. Each year, between 91-95% of members voluntarily register for these initiatives. In 2023, evaluations showed that 91% of members achieved the standards of being “Compassionate, Creative, Competent, and Elegant.”

Moreover, the Hanoi Women’s Union has launched extensive social welfare programs focused on supporting women and children practically and meaningfully. These efforts have involved introducing new models to empower women in building modern rural communities and civil urban areas, effectively supporting women’s economic empowerment, and fostering people-to-people diplomacy and international cooperation in the pursuit of gender equality and women’s advancement. Humanitarian efforts, charity programs, and initiatives honoring veterans and supporting military families have also been widely and effectively implemented, benefiting families with special needs, women, and underprivileged children. These activities have significantly contributed to raising awareness and reinforcing the role and responsibility of women in building stable family units.

In recent years, the Hanoi Women’s Union has shown a strong commitment to organizing programs specifically for elderly women, supporting their well-being, and reinforcing their roles within families and communities. These initiatives have successfully engaged older women as active members, leveraging their wisdom to preserve cultural identity and nurture Vietnamese family values. Particularly, these programs emphasize the admirable qualities of Vietnamese women in building the image of the Hanoi woman as “Compassionate, Creative, Competent, and Elegant.” Many senior women, serving as Women’s Union officers, have remained actively involved in community initiatives such as population advocacy and volunteer work for social issue prevention.
