On the afternoon of April 25, the 2018 Southeast Asia Karate Championship ended after 3 days of exciting competition, gained 29 golds, 24 silvers and 36 bronzes, the host Vietnam team took the first place.
Vietnamese karate team in the lead with 89 medals
Taking place from April 23rd, at the Bac Ninh Multipurpose Sport Hall, the tournament was joined by nearly 400 officials of international sport organizations, referees, coaches and athletes of seven countries in the region including Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam.
In particular, 80 athletes of the host team participated in the competition. The participants competed for 52 sets of medals in kata and kumite of men’s team, women’s team, men’s individual, and women’s individual and divided into 4 groups of ages such as 14-15; 16-17, more than 17 and less than 21.
End of the competition, Vietnam team ranked first with 29 golds, 24 silvers, and 36 bronzes. Indonesia with total 44 medals (9 golds, 11 silvers and 24 bronzes came second. Thailand getting 7 golds, 5 silvers, and 9 bronzes took third.
Commenting on the tournament, Mr. Le Tung Duong, the head coach of Vietnam karate team said that it is the tournament of the best athletes of the countries in the region, therefore, it has created the intense competition among athletes. Having won 89 medals in this tournament, the Vietnam karate team exceeded the target set and it is also an important step for the Vietnam karate team before entering the ASIAD 2018.
