There were also Permanent Secretary, former Permanent Secretary of the Secretariat, Member of the Politburo, former Member of the Politburo, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Former Secretary of the Party Central Committee, many leaders, former leaders of the Party and State, representatives of central and Hanoi city’s agencies, ministries, branches, mass organizations, senior revolutionary officials, Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, Heroes of the People’s Armed Forces, Labor Heroes, representatives of diplomatic missions, together with representatives of all classes of people and the armed forces of the Capital.
Opening the ceremony, a special art program entitled “Sáng mãi niềm tin (Forever Belief)” were held with items imbued with the love of the homeland and the country, showing pride and gratitude to the glorious Communist Party of Vietnam, the great President Ho Chi Minh, praising the revolutionary hero tradition and sacrifices of generations of cadres, party members, soldiers and compatriots, affirming the determination and solidarity and loyalty under the leadership banner of the Party to firmly strive on the path of innovation, building and protection of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

Speech by Mr. General Secretary, President Nguyen Phu Trong at the 90th Anniversary of the Founding of Communist Party of Vietnam reviewed the heroic historical milestones of our Party, recalled great achievements of President Ho Chi Minh and revolutionary heroes and at the same time review the achievements of the country after 35 years of renovation.
General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong stated that on February 3, 1930, the Conference of the unification of communist organizations in the Cuu Long peninsula, Hong Kong (China), under the chairing of (leader Nguyen Ai Quoc), decided to unify the communist organizations in our country into a single Party, named the Communist Party of Vietnam. This is a major historical turning point, ending the prolonged crisis about the organization and guidelines of Vietnam’s Revolution.
The birth of the Communist Party of Vietnam was the result of a combination of Marxism – Leninism and worker and patriotic movements demonstrating that the working class of Vietnam has grown up and is strong enough to shoulder the historic mission of revolutionary leadership.
The first political guideline of the Party passed at the CPV’s Establishment Conference has determined the basic path of the Vietnamese revolution, meeting the urgent needs of the nation and the earnest aspirations of the people.
After such establishment, attaching with people and getting unanimously supported and trusted by the people, within only 15 years, our Party led the struggle for national liberation and conducted three climaxes of revolution: Revolution 1930 – 1931, culminating in the Soviet – Nghe Tinh movement, Revolution demanding social welfare and democracy (1936 – 1939) and Revolution of national liberation (1939 – 1945), so that in 1945, when the opportunity came, the Communist Party of Vietnam led the entire people of Vietnam to the landslide victory of the August Revolution 1945 to found the Democratic Republic of Vietnam on September 2, 1945 (the 75th anniversary of it this year).
Immediately after the birth of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, the revolution faced many difficulties and challenges, and “famine, illiteracy and foreign invader” at the same time. In such dire situation, the Party led our people to overcome the situation of “hanging by a thread”, stubbornly defended and built a young government, and actively prepared every aspect to step in the resistance war against French colonialists. On the basis of the “all-people”, “all-round”, “long-term” and “reliance on ourselves” resistance strategies, promoting the tradition of solidarity and patriotism of the entire nation, the Party led the people to defeat all intrigue and invasion plans of the enemy, especially the victory in the Winter-Spring War 1953 – 1954, with the Dien Bien Phu historic victory which is “illustrious in five continents” to force the French colonialists to sign the Geneva Agreement (1954) ending their aggression against Vietnam.
From 1954 to 1975, the country was divided into two regions. Under the leadership of the Party, the North had made great efforts to build socialism while simultaneously fulfilling its strong rear’s obligations to the great frontline. The people of the South continued their unyielding struggle to achieve national independence and unification. In the spirit of “it is better to sacrifice all but not to lose our country and become slaves”, “nothing is more precious than independence and freedom”, based on the right and creative ways of the Party, with the combined strength of the entire nation, our army force and our people, we defeated the war strategies of the enemy, completely liberated the South and unified the Fatherland on April 30, 1975. It is “forever one of the most glorious victories in our nation’s history, a shining symbol of the triumph of revolutionary heroism and human intelligence, and a great feat of the twentieth century as recorded in the world’s history, an event of great international importance and profound modernity” (the 45th anniversary this year).

After nearly 35 years of the renovation process, from a poor country with backward and low-level material and technical facilities and socio-economic infrastructure, Vietnam has now reached to become a developing country with medium-level income, constantly developing culture and society, people’s improved material and spiritual life. The building-up of the Party and political system has had breakthroughs; the great national unity bloc is constantly being consolidated; politics and society are stable; national defense – security, independence, sovereignty is maintained; the position and prestige of the country are increasingly enhanced on the international arena. Now, Vietnam is a country with the population of nearly 100 million people with an income per capita of USD 2,800, which has participated in most international organizations and become an active and responsible member in the activities of the international community. Recently, Vietnam has been elected by the United Nations General Assembly with the very high number of votes of confidence as the non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the second time. With great achievements, we have the basis to affirm that our country has never had the opportunity, potential, position and prestige before.
General Secretary cum President Nguyen Phu Trong affirmed that the rich and vivid practices of the Vietnamese revolution in the past 90 years have proved that the correct and wise leadership of the Party is a decisive factor of all victories of the revolution to gain many miracles in Vietnam.
Through the process of revolutionary leadership, our Party is refined and mature to be worthy of its role and mission in leading the revolution and the trust and expectation of the people.
That reality affirms a truth that in Vietnam, there is no other political force other than the Communist Party of Vietnam that has enough bravery, wisdom, experience, prestige and ability to lead the country to overcome all difficulties and challenges for the constant victories of our nation’s revolutionary career.
General Secretary cum President Nguyen Phu Trong emphasized that looking back on the 90-year journey of building, fighting and maturing of the Communist Party of Vietnam and in this sacred moment, we expressed our infinite gratitude to the merits of President Ho Chi Minh – the genius Leader of our Party and our people, the Great Teacher of the Vietnam Revolution – Hero of national liberation and world’s cultural celebrity. He has devoted his whole life to the people and our country, led the Party and our people to make glorious victories and make our nation, our people and our country “great”. The more the country develops, the more prosperous and happier our people are, proving that Ho Chi Minh’s thought, career, morality and style are an invaluable asset and a torch to light the future way of our nation.
We forever remember the great gratitude of the senior leaders, the millions of heroes, martyrs and people who bravely sacrificed for independence, freedom, sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of the Fatherland, socialism and noble international obligations. We express our deep gratitude to the revolutionary elders, martyrs’ families, Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, wounded and sick soldiers, families with meritorious services to the country, and all fellow compatriots and soldiers all over the country who bravely fought, sacrificed, worked creatively and made great contributions to the glorious revolutionary cause of our nation. With all the modesty of the revolutionaries, we can still say: “How great our Party is! How heroic our people!”.
We always remember and express our deep gratitude for the support and assistance of other socialist countries, the progressive teams and friends throughout the five continents in our cause of fighting for national liberation and reunification in the past as well as in the building and defense of the Fatherland today.

Confirming the results achieved in the work of building the Party, but General Secretary cum President Nguyen Phu Trong also noted that in the context where our Party is the ruling party operating in the environment of developing, open and integrated market economy and party cadres and members hold many responsibilities and constantly face the temptations of money, material possessions, power, personal interests, we have to take care of the revolutionary nature and the pioneering spirit of the Party. If without this awareness and Party cadres and party members are not active and persevere in training and studying, they will degenerate. The issue of preserving the nature of the Party – a true Communist Party and revolutionary party and working for the cause of the worker class and the nation and the benefit of the people is a very basic and important. President Ho Chi Minh once warned, “A nation, a party and a person was great in the past but may be not today and future if it/he/she is no longer chaste but fall into individualism”.
The Resolution of the 4th plenum of the XI and XII Party Central Committee on the building of the Party affirmed that the Party must be built and rectified with the positive, resolute and strong spirit to create the more significant change at all aspects, prevent and reverse the degeneration, consolidate the steadfastness on the revolutionary goals and ideals, strengthen the unity of will and action, the close organization and close relationships with people, improve the leadership and fighting ability of the Party, as a vital issue of our Party and our regime. A true revolutionary party that has the right way and transparent, exemplary and devoted and is well-organized and supported by the people will have unrivaled power to lead the whole nation.
General Secretary cum President stated that this year when we celebrate the founding of the Party is of special significance since 2020 is the last year of the XII Congress term when the all-level congress is held to toward to the XIII National Congress of the Party, many major political events are celebrated and Vietnam acts as ASEAN Chairperson and a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council. The international and domestic situation not only creates many opportunities and advantages but also poses many difficulties and challenges, requiring the whole Party, the entire people and the whole army to make great efforts and determination to successfully accomplish the tasks of 2020 with the focus on striving to fulfill at the highest level the socio-economic development tasks, strengthening macroeconomic stability, promoting the implementation of strategic breakthroughs, restructuring the economy associated with renewing the growth model, ensuring social security and social welfare, and improving living standards of people, maintaining independence, sovereignty and a peaceful and stable environment for the development of the country, promoting foreign relations, successfully organizing the party congress at all levels to the 13th National Congress of the Party, in association with the continued implementation of the Resolution of the 4th plenum of the XI and XII Party Central Committee and Directive No. 05 of the Politburo on promoting learning and following Ho Chi Minh’s thought, morality and style, creating a more dramatic change in building and regulating the Party..

At the Celebration, on behalf of the Party’s member of the whole country, Mr. Ha Ky, 87 years old and 70 years of working in the Party expressed his honor and emotion and love to the glorious Party and the great Uncle Ho. Rejoicing at the achievements of the Party and our country, he affirmed “We, Party’s elderly members, witnessed and participated in contributing to the two resistance wars, and see the country’s achievements of more than 30 years of renewal. Nowadays, although our age is high and our health is not the same as before, with our sense of responsibility and affection for the Party, we promise the Party will continue to promote the role of Party members in the Party’s operation and daily life. We trust in the young generation today who will continue promoting the glorious revolutionary tradition of the previous generations, strive to learn and devote more to our country and make great feats, defend the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, build our greater country as the wish of Uncle Ho”.

Young generation’s representative, Ms. Nguyen Thuy Linh, a student of University of Languages and International Studies ( (Vietnam National University Hanoi) highlighted the determination of today’s young generation following tradition to strive to study and work and contribute the youth to building our greater and greater country. Ms. Nguyen Thuy Linh affirmed “The young people of Vietnam pledge to always be loyal to the revolutionary ideals of the Party, maintain our trust in the Party and the Fatherland, to strongly promote the volunteering spirit for a warm life and the happiness of the people, for the happiness of every person and every family. Young people are constantly improving and training their bravery, fostering revolutionary ideals, firmly and steadfastly defending the Party’s ideological foundation, fighting against conspiracy, peace’s evolution and false allegations of hostile forces in the current context of deep integration, persevering in studying and following the morality and style of President Ho Chi Minh, making the best efforts to become the loyal and excellent successors to the glorious revolutionary career of the Party and the nation, continuously striving to create more and more typical examples of collectives and individuals in learning, work, creation and national defense. It is the highest expression of infinite gratitude of today’s generation to the glorious Party, the great Uncle Ho, the deep concern of the whole society in the career of fostering, educating and training the young generation … The young people of Vietnam pledges to unite and strive to make a determination to build a prosperous and powerful Socialist Republic of Vietnam to level up to the powers in the five continents, etc.”
