The works in the exhibition are themed to praise the Communist Party of Vietnam, express the feelings of the army and people for Uncle Ho, or the image of the first spring of independence and freedom, which is expressed through the works such as “The Party is a Kind Mother” (Pham Xuan Thi, 1958), “President Ho Chi Minh 1890 – 1969” (Vuong Hoc Bao, 1970), “Springtime 1975” (Tran Tia, 1975), “Listen to the Homeland” “ (Vu Ngoc Khoi, 1978), “Uncle Ho went to find a way to save the country” (Diep Minh Chau, 1985)…

Viewers also feel the spring atmosphere in all parts of the country through the works “ The sound of the traditional lute” (Ta Quang Bao, 1941), “Rowing festival” (Ninh Thi Den, 1984), “ The spring dance” (Tran Viet Ha, 2001) and works on the theme of building a life such as “Skillful furrow” (Tran Thiet, 1980), “Youth power” (Pham Ngoc Tuan, 1983).

The work in the 1970s mainly followed the trend of realism, which was the premise for the next development steps. After the Doi Moi period up to now, the trend of modern composition has prevailed, artists have chosen their own artistic styles, showing special interest in social issues directly or implicitly. For example, such as: “The Gift of the Sea” (Hoang Mai Thiep, 2017), “Milk Bottle” (Nguyen Khac Quan, 2005), “Comrades” (Vu Huu Nhung, 2003)…

Nguyen Anh Minh, Director of the Vietnam National Fine Arts Museum said: Generations of Vietnamese sculptors have continued the tradition to create a modern sculptural foundation that is diverse in visual language, bringing to viewers a realistic and vivid view of the love of life and people in all parts of the country and convey messages about contemporary environmental and social issues.

From the works on display, viewers can see the transformation of creative tendencies, the diverse expressions of blocks – shapes, the richness of creative materials. At the same time, the works also show the sculptors’ style quite clearly, especially in the aspect of both inheriting the traditional style and having unique features, modern development, expressing the honest, optimistic view before the changes and development of the country and people.
