The Hanoi Art Space team has successfully installed 12 ceramic Mosaic art paintings on manhole and culvert covers on Trang Tien and Dinh Tien Hoang streets and other walking streets around Hoan Kiem lake. This is a part of the Project “Colors of Hanoi” proposed by Hanoi Art Space team to the People’s Committee of Hoan Kiem district, which has been approved and piloted by the People’s Committee of Hanoi city at the end of 2018 and the beginning of 2019 by painting and decorating more than 70 electric cabinets on Trang Thi, Hang Khay and Trang Tien streets. After more than a year, the major streets of the capital city are now again adorned with vibrant colors.
Mosaic means the art of assembling small pieces into a block using various and diverse materials such as glass, rubble, mirror piece, etc. Hanoi Art Space team has coordinated with pottery manufacturers in the traditional village of Bat Trang (Gia Lam) in creating ceramic mosaic art paintings.
The team paints in a meticulous manner
There are some stages of making a decorative ceramic Mosaic painting on manhole or culvert covers: painting, making the frame, then putting into a furnace at a temperature of about 1250 degrees Celsius. Each stage requires meticulousness and smooth and harmonious coordination between the painters, architects and artisans. Paintings then will be transported and installed on site. 3 or 4 people are required to install a painting on a manhole cover in about 2-3 hours.
Members of Hanoi Art Space team are completing a picture on a manhole cover on the sidewalk of Dinh Tien Hoang street.
The paintings in the project of renovating manhole and culvert cover of Hanoi Art Space team describe the typical features of Hanoi Capital, natural landscapes, trees and flowers, insects, etc. In addition to honoring the beauty of the city, Hanoi Art Space team also desires to propagate and raise awareness of people in protecting the environment and preserving urban civilization, and to make new interesting look for the old manhole and culver covers on the major streets, attracting domestic and foreign tourists.
An idyllic and close picture of nature.
Given the success of the implemented projects, in the coming time, Hanoi Art Space team would like to obtain permission from the People’s Committee of Hanoi city and the People’s Committee of Hoan Kiem district to continue decorating the manhole and culvert covers on sidewalks of the streets in the district, especially the walking streets around Hoan Kiem Lake.
