On the afternoon of October 13, 2022, Comrade Do Dinh Hong, City Commissioner, Director of Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports had a meeting with Ms. Le Thi Thanh Thao – Representative of UNIDO (United Nations Industrial Development Organization) in Vietnam. Attending the meeting were Mr. Kjell Sundin, industrial development specialist of UNIDO headquarters in Vienna, Component Manager to promote creative industries and digital manufacturing in Hanoi of Hanoi Rethink project; Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Tu- Coordinator, UNIDO Component of Hanoi Rethink project; representatives of departments, divisions and units under Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports: Department’s Office, Divisions: Cultural Heritage Management, Legal Organization, Financial Planning, Art Management, Culture Management.
At the meeting, Ms. Le Thi Thanh Thao and Mr. Kjell Sundin reported on the activities that have been and are being implemented of Hanoi Rethink project. This is a project within the framework of the joint program called Cultural Resource Mobilization and Youth Participation for Creative Capital Hanoi. The Hanoi Rethink project aims to promote the creative and digital manufacturing industries in Hanoi, starting from June 2022 to March 2023.

Under this collaborative project, UNIDO will map out pilot Fabrication Laboratories (FabLab) and innovation centers in Hanoi, providing a training program in industrial and Technology 4.0 design for the creative industries and organizing a design competition to support the development of innovative solutions in the creative industries sector in collaboration with local laboratories, companies and other institutions/universities. UNIDO is working with Fab City Foundation to carry out the program activities.

To implement the Project, UNIDO organized the contest “Challenge to design a circular life”. With the theme “Circular life”, the contest seeks new ideas capable of promoting and developing the values and heritage of Hanoi city in the cultural and creative economy, challenging design, while encouraging design directions, interdisciplinary, creative and sustainable innovations that showcase the talents of the Vietnamese manufacturing, design, and creative community. The competition is conducted under the accompaniment of three UN agencies UNESCO, UNIDO and UN-Habitat. On the morning of October 13, the Organizing Committee awarded the top 3 prizes to the ideas participating in the contest.
Comrade Do Dinh Hong, City Commissioner, Director of the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports, also briefly informed about the activities that Hanoi has implemented to concretize the commitments of the Hanoi People’s Committee to UNESCO in implementing creative city construction activities such as: Contest “Hanoi Public Art Design 2022” and Contest “Hanoi Creativity”.

In the cordial atmosphere, the two sides exchanged and shared cooperation opportunities on the activities of the component to promote creative and digital manufacturing industries in Hanoi within the framework of Hanoi Rethink project, contributing part of the implementation of commitments when joining UNESCO’s Creative Cities Network associated with the development of the cultural industry of Hanoi City.
