Attending the launch ceremony were: Nguyen Van Thanh, Deputy Director of the Vietnamese Cultural Life Skills Center – Vietnam Women’s Academy; Dao Thu Hai, Chairwoman of the Long Bien District Women’s Union, along with representatives from district departments, agencies, unions, and 14 wards; members of the Women’s Union of the wards, etc.

In his speech at the launch ceremony, Tran Van Son, Deputy Head of the Long Bien District Department of Labor, Invalids, and Social Affairs, stated that in recent years, the work of gender equality, prevention, and response to gender-based violence, and the advancement of women has been given attention by district-level Party committees and authorities, with leadership and direction in implementation. Alongside achievements in socio-economic areas, Long Bien District has implemented numerous solutions, activities, and programs aimed at promoting gender equality and the advancement of women.

To further enhance gender equality efforts, in response to the “Action Month for Gender Equality and Prevention, Response to Gender-based Violence 2024” with the theme “Ensuring Social Security, Empowering Women and Girls to Achieve Gender Equality and Eliminate Gender-based Violence” taking place from November 15, 2024, to December 15, 2024, Tran Van Son proposed several key actions for departments, agencies, and ward-level People’s Committees to implement:

Organize activities in response to the Action Month in suitable and safe forms; effectively disseminate information about the theme, messages, and activities of the Action Month through diverse media formats appropriate for different groups, such as direct communication, radio, electronic portals, social networks, leaflets, brochures…

Conduct forums, dialogues, discussions, workshops, training sessions, and cultural and sports activities related to the theme of the 2024 Gender Equality Action Month; promote policies that ensure social security for the general population, particularly women and children; emphasize the role of empowering women and girls in advancing gender equality; recognize and commend outstanding collectives and individuals in gender equality work.

Review and effectively implement existing policies and propose additional social security policies related to women and children, as well as legal provisions, especially those addressing acts of violence and abuse against women and children.

Focus on mobilizing and providing resources and encouraging other societal and community resources to support disadvantaged women and children, victims of abuse, violence, trafficking, and exploitation. Assign responsibilities for managing, monitoring, and assisting cases at risk and victims of violence, trafficking, and exploitation.

Enhance inspection forms and strictly handle violations related to gender equality and prevention of gender-based violence, as well as in implementing social security support policies.

Following the launch ceremony, the Long Bien District Women’s Advancement Committee, in coordination with the Long Bien District Women’s Union, organized a communication session on “Action Month for Gender Equality and Prevention, Response to Gender-based Violence 2024.” Participants listened to Nguyen Van Thanh, Deputy Director of the Vietnamese Cultural Life Skills Center – Vietnam Women’s Academy, who shared and discussed several topics related to gender equality, such as gender, gender stereotypes, the role of basic social services in promoting gender equality, legal policies ensuring basic social services, and gender issues in basic social services. This session helped participants acquire fundamental knowledge, enhance awareness of social security networks, empower women and girls, and create opportunities to apply these insights in their work and daily lives, contributing to the gradual realization of gender equality and the elimination of gender-based violence in the locality in the future.
