The final match of the women’s team epee event at the Southeast Asian Fencing Championship 2024 saw the Vietnamese team, consisting of Nguyen Phuong Kim, Nguyen Thi Kieu Oanh, Pham Huyen Trang, and Vu Thi Hong (Vietnam Women’s Team 1), facing off against a team from the Philippines in a thrilling competition. The Vietnamese fencers showcased their composure and skill, securing the Gold Medal with a narrow victory of 45-43. This marked the fifth Gold Medal for Vietnam’s fencing team at the championship.

Previously, the Vietnamese athletes had already earned four Gold Medals in the following categories: Men’s Sabre Individual (Nguyen Xuan Loi), Women’s Epee Individual (Nguyen Phuong Kim), Men’s Team Epee (Nguyen Minh Hieu, Nguyen Phuoc Den, Nguyen Tien Nhat, Tran Hoang Gia), and Women’s Team Sabre (Le Thi Minh Hang, Ngo Thi Huong, Pham Thi Thu Hoai, Phung Khanh Linh).
Meanwhile, in the Men’s Team Foil final, Vietnam Team 1, comprising Cao Minh Duyet, Nguyen Minh Quang, Nguyen Truong Giang, and Nguyen Van Hai, put up a strong fight but ultimately lost to the Philippines with a score of 40-41, earning a Silver Medal.
In the final category of the day, the Men’s Team Sabre, despite high expectations, the Vietnamese fencers, including Vu Thanh An, Nguyen Xuan Loi, Nguyen Van Quyet, and Le Van Bang, could not make it to the final, they finished the semifinals with a Bronze Medal.
Wrapping up the competition, the Vietnamese fencing team, with 31 athletes competing in 3 categories – foil, epee, and sabre (men’s and women’s) – achieved a total of 5 Gold Medals, 5 Silver Medals, and 10 Bronze Medals.
The Southeast Asian Fencing Championship 2024 featured many prominent athletes from Thailand, the Philippines, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, and other countries. This Championship is an important competition for the Vietnamese fencing team and teams from the region to enhance their professional skills. It also allows Vietnamese fencing and individual athletes to assess regional competitors and target opportunities for the upcoming 33rd SEA Games 2025.
