From 19 to 21 December, at Thong Nhat Park (Hai Ba Trung Ward), the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports organizes the Hanoi Food and Culture Festival 2025 under the theme “Hanoi – A Culinary Journey Connecting Creativity.”

The festival honors the culinary excellence of the Capital, positioning cuisine as a distinctive cultural tourism product and a driving force for the development of Hanoi’s cultural industries.

Speaking at a press conference on 16 December, Le Thi Anh Mai, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports, noted that Hanoi currently has seven culinary heritages inscribed on the National List of Intangible Cultural Heritage, including: Hanoi pho; the craft of making Me Tri green rice flakes (Tu Liem Ward); the craft of scenting lotus tea in Quang An (Tay Ho Ward); the craft of making Phu Thuong sticky rice (Phu Thuong Ward); the craft of Thanh Tri steamed rice rolls (Vinh Hung Ward); and the culinary knowledge of Bat Trang ceremonial feasts (Bat Trang Commune).

A highlight of the festival is the opening ceremony on the evening of 19 December, during which the decision to inscribe “Culinary Knowledge and Appreciation of Cha Ca La Vong” on the National List of Intangible Cultural Heritage will be officially announced. Residents and visitors will have the opportunity to meet the Doan family and hear the story of six generations devoted to preserving and perfecting this iconic Hanoi dish.

Cha Ca La Vong – to be inscribed on the National List of Intangible Cultural Heritage.

The festival brings together 60 culinary booths featuring Hanoi specialties and regional cuisines, alongside a rich program of activities: thematic seminars, artisan workshops, student cooking competitions, folk and contemporary art performances, exhibitions, and reenactments of traditional culinary heritages. A dedicated check-in space, “A Thousand Words of Pride,” celebrating Vietnamese pho, is another major attraction.

With the message “Listen to the Stories of Culinary Heritage,” the Hanoi Food and Culture Festival 2025 promises to become a compelling weekend cultural destination, where cuisine is not only tasted, but experienced as living culture, connecting tradition with creativity and heritage with community.
