In her opening remarks at the public performance program, Ms. Le Thi Anh Mai, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports, shared: The spoken drama Doi Mat carries profound significance in terms of artistic value and revolutionary ideals; through it, the beautiful image of the People’s Public Security officer in general is spread, and tribute is paid to the silent yet especially important contributions of the Capital’s police force in particular in the cause of safeguarding national security, ensuring social order and safety, for the peaceful life of the People and the sustainable development of the Capital in the new period. The dedicated and professional support and the achievements of the Hanoi Police have contributed to creating a favorable environment for the Capital’s culture and arts to develop in the right direction, making a practical contribution to the image of Hanoi – the City for Peace: safe, civilized, modern, and rich in identity.
The play Doi Mat vividly recreates the arduous struggle of police officers against the challenges of modern society, spreading the spirit of courage, sacrifice, and responsibility for the peace of the Fatherland. At the same time, the play offers another perspective on police officers: they not only confront crime but also face difficulties in everyday life.
The play revolves around the main character: young police officer Minh Tri, full of enthusiasm and love for his profession. He has a truly pure and beautiful love with a young woman named Van. During one operation with his comrades, Tri is seriously injured and loses the ability to walk. Fearing that he will become a burden to his family and to Van – his beloved – Tri decides to quietly withdraw from the relationship, but Van does not accept this.
The female lead is Van – a young woman with dreams and aspirations to contribute to society. She must face many difficulties in life, especially family prejudices regarding her lover and his family. Van overcomes everything and preserves her love. She is willing to give up her job at a university to devote time to caring for her lover’s seriously ill mother until she passes away; she is also unafraid to face hardship and toil in caring for her lover, who is disabled in his legs with an uncertain future, while her own parents oppose the relationship.
The ending of the play is very happy, opening a beautiful story: Minh Tri is able to fully recover the use of his legs when the leadership creates conditions to invite skilled foreign experts to help reconnect the lower-limb nerves.
In addition to the Silver Medal awarded to the play, the spoken drama Doi Mat also received six individual medals, including two Gold Medals, three Silver Medals, and one Bronze Medal.
