The Hanoi Food and Culture Festival 2025 is set to become a culturally rich weekend destination, where culinary artisans tell their stories and connect with the younger generation, serving as a bridge between traditional cuisine and new creative trends. This was affirmed by Le Thi Anh Mai, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports, at the press conference on the Hanoi Food and Culture Festival 2025 held on the afternoon of December 16 in Hanoi.

According to Ms. Mai, from the traditional 36 streets of Hanoi to an expanded Hanoi following administrative boundary adjustments infused with the cultural essence of Xu Doai, Hanoi’s culture in general and its cuisine in particular have become increasingly rich and diverse.

Since 2014, Hanoi has conducted an inventory of intangible cultural heritage, through which hundreds of culinary heritages have been identified and included in the city’s heritage list. The inscription of intangible cultural heritage on the national list not only honors heritage values but also serves as an effective solution to safeguard, promote, and transform heritage into “assets” and sustainable resources for cultural industry development, while recognizing the talents of artisans and contributing to improved local livelihoods.

Ms. Le Thi Anh Mai, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports, shares insights on the Hanoi Food and Culture Festival 2025.

The Hanoi Food and Culture Festival 2025 will contribute to preserving and transmitting traditional culinary skills and know-how to the community, especially the younger generation, through live demonstrations, hands-on culinary practice, and exchanges with artisans. Connection activities combined with various creative initiatives will generate numerous cultural products derived from cuisine, enhancing the attractiveness of heritage and enabling cuisine to become a driving resource for the development of the Capital’s cultural industry.

The Hanoi Food and Culture Festival 2025, themed “Hanoi – A Culinary Journey Connecting Creativity,” will take place from December 19 to 21 at Thong Nhat Park, Hanoi. At the opening ceremony on the evening of December 19, the Organizing Committee will announce the decision of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to inscribe “The Knowledge of Preparing and Enjoying Cha Ca La Vong (Hanoi City)” on the National Intangible Cultural Heritage List.

The press conference was attended by a large number of artisans and journalists from various media agencies.

Within the festival framework, numerous engaging activities will be held. Sixty culinary spaces showcasing Hanoi cuisine and regional food products will enable visitors and residents of the Capital to enjoy a wide range of distinctive dishes from Hanoi and other localities, honoring traditional culinary heritage values and affirming the “Hanoi Cuisine” brand associated with elegance and refinement.

In addition, the festival will feature a thematic seminar titled “Exchange on Enhancing Human Resource Quality – Developing Culinary Culture”; artisan-led workshops and rapid competitions among students from different schools in the culinary field under the guidance of artisans; performances including circus acts, chau van singing, xam singing, street performances, and art forms blending tradition and modernity; photo and book exhibitions; and live demonstrations of culinary heritage such as making banh chung, preparing Bat Trang ceremonial feasts, scenting West Lake lotus tea, the green rice-making process, cooking Phu Thuong sticky rice, cold snail noodle soup, making candied fruits and jams, and cooking “chao se.”
