Bach Mai hospital receives certificate of relic as “a memorable historical site of revolutionary resistance at Bach Mai hospital”

On the occassion of the 62nd Anniversary of Viet Nam Doctors’s Day (27 February, 1955 – 27 February, 2017) on the morning of 24 February, the hospital of Bach Mai offically received cirtificate of municipally classified relic as “a memorable historical site of revolutionary resistance at Bach Mai hospital”.

Responding to President Ho chi Minh’s appeal to the entire nation’s resistance, on the night of 19 December1946, together with people nationwide, the armed force and people of Dong Da bravely stopped the French colonialists’ attacks on our war positions at city gates, of which there was a fierce battle at Vong dispensary (then Bach Mai hospital).

It was also right at this place, on 15 January 1947, soldiers of the national defence battalion No.64, militiamen and local people, armed with mainly rifle, grenade, tripod bomb, knife, sword, molotov cocktails, selflessly intercepted the attack by nearly 1000 Euro-African men, together with a number of tanks, armoured vehicles backed by aircrafts and artilleries. Utilizing forts, combat trenches, attics, rooftops they had been able to drive back  many raids, killing hundreds of enemies, destroying 1 tank. While 50 our soldiers and militiamen heroicly sacrificed.

The battle at Vong dispensary was the salient image of combatant bravery and victory, symbolizing Hanoians’ iron will during the early days of the whole nation’s resistance war “determined to sacrifice all, but not to yield to the nation’s loss and slavery”. This victory had positively contributed to the common achievements during 60 days and nights, starting the great resistance struggle staged by our nation against the French invaders.
