The Ministry of Culture, sports and Tourism has permitted the Centre of Heritage Conservation of Thang Long – Ha Noi to team with the Institute of Archaeology to excavate the floor area of the Combatant Department within Thang Long imperial citadel’s central area – Ha Noi.

Findings discovered in 2016 at the site of Thang Long imperial citadel have led to a number of fresh important clues. With the artefacts excavated, scientiests termed that they might be able to change the perceptions of factual information as well as historical values of the relics.
With the permission given by the Ministry of Culture, sports and Tourism, the Institute of Archaeology will continue to excavate inside the central areas of Thang Long Citadel. The excavation will start from 15 April to 30 December, 2017 on an area of 982 square metres. The disintering work will be led by Mr. Tong Trung Tin from the Institute of Archaeology.
During the excavation, the authorized agencies are required to protect the relic’s layers, hold responsibilties to propagandize among the public on the preservation of the local cultural heritages, not to publicize official final outcomes without any consensus by the organization in charge and the Department of Cultural Heritages management, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

For the objects discovered and collected during the process of excavation, the Centre of Heritages Conservation of Thang Long – Ha Noi shall have to keep, safeguard and recommend to the Minister of Culture, sports and Tourism on the schemes for preservation and promotion of their values.
At the same time, upon completion of the disintering round, 3 months at the latest, the Centre of Heritages Conservation of Thang Long – Ha Noi and the Institute of Archaeology shall have to make an interim report and send it to the Department of Cultural Heritages Management for perusal. And upon the release of the excavation results, the permitted excavating body must consult in advance with the Department of Cultural Heritages Management.
