On 24 May, at Cultural Palace, Hanoi Department of Education and Training organized “The ceremony for commending and rewarding excellent pupils in the city during the 2016-2017 period. Participants of the ceremony include Ms. Ngo Thi Thanh Hang, Standing Deputy Secretary of Hanoi Party’s Committee; Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Tuan, Standing Vice Chairman of Hanoi People’s Council; Mr. Ngo Van Quy, Vice Chairman of Hanoi People’s Committee, Mr. Nguyen Huu Do, Director of Department of Educations and Training; Mr. Vu Hong Khanh, Chairman of Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee and representatives of departments, associations in the city together with more than 1,000 excellent pupils and organizations.

During 2016-2017 period, Hanoi Sector of Educational and Training has strongly developed with more than 2,660 schools and 1.8 million pupils (increased by 43 schools and more than 95 thousand pupils compared with the same period of the last year). The entire sector directed it focus to innovation and improvement of teaching and learning methods; construction of schools to meet national standards, paid attention to upgrading facilities for schools. The number of schools in the city meeting national standards makes up 57%. Schools at different grades have fulfiled their tasks with many remarkable achievements. Pupils in the city have continuously obtained many impressive achievements in national and international competitions. In the national competition entitled to excellent pupils in 2017, Hanoi continuously takes lead in the number and quality of prizes with 146 prizes (including 11 first prizes). In international Olympic competition, pupils of high schools obtained 16 prizes and medals in many subjects. At the national scientific and technical competition (ViSEF) during 2016-2017 period, the delegation of pupils of the city has excellent achievements with 23 topics awarded prize, in which, one theme allowed to attend the Intel ISEF competition in America.
1,020 pupils were commended in the ceremony are good examples on study and practical achievements. Typically, Dinh Anh Dung and Nguyen Dinh Bach, pupils of Hanoi – Amsterdam High school obtained 1 gold medal and 1 consolation prize in Asian Physical Olympic Competition in Russian Federation, Nguyen Nhu Khoi (class 5G, Chu Van An primary school, Tay Ho district obtained the first prize in the international maths competition in Thailand, the first prize in the competition for Singing English songs, the second prize at city level in telling stories in English, actively participating in charity activities to support pupils in mountainous regions and regions with unfavourable conditions in Quang Binh, Lai Chau, Hoa Binh, Son La, etc.
At the ceremony, Mr. Ngo Van Quy, Vice Chairman of Hanoi Peple’s Committee emphasized that over the past years, the city has offered many policies on study and talent encouragement, facility investment, improvement of teacher qualification, commending and rewarding regime for excellent pupils and teachers of schools at levels. Achievements of pupils and those with unfavourable conditions were welcomed and highly appreciated by the city.
