August 26 was the successful day of Pencak Silat of Vietnam Team at ASIAD 18 when six fighters went through the semi-finals to reach the final round. Three fighters named Pham Tuan Anh, Tran Duy Tuyen and Hoang Thi Loan won three bronze medals for the Vietnam team.
Tran Dinh Nam put his name into the finals
Tran Dinh Nam, Nguyen Ngoc Toan, Tran Thi Them, Nguyen Van Tri, Nguyen Thi Cam Nhi, Nguyen Thai Linh have registered themselves in the finals of Pencak Silat in the coming days and they are also six hopes for the gold medal of Vietnam Sports Team at ASIAD 18.
In Pencak Silat, the Vietnamese fighters participated in all 10 subjects in ASIAD 2018 and gained the right to attend 9/10 semi-finals.
In the 9 semi-finals of the eighth day, six fighters took their names to the finals of Pencak Silat. 6 fighters desiring gold medals include Tran Thi Them (50-55kg), Nguyen Thi Cam Nhi (60-65kg), Nguyen Thai Linh (55-60kg), Nguyen Ngoc Toan (60-65kg male), Tran Dinh Nam (70-75kg), Nguyen Van Tri (90-96kg for male). In the semi-finals, the Vietnamese fighters made an impression and won over their rivals.
Meeting the rivals at lower rank from Kyrgyzstan, Tran Dinh Nam won Daniar at the score of 5-0 and made his name in the final on August 29. Tran Dinh Nam’s rival in the final was Khalid Mohd Fauzi from Malaysia, who won Tran Dinh Nam in the final at the 70-75kg weight class in SEA Games 29. Hopefully, this will be the chance for Tran Dinh Nam to revenge.
Like fighter Tran Dinh Nam, Nguyen Ngoc Toan also won Philippine rival Jefferson Rhey at the score of 5-0. In the final match on August 29, the 2017 Asian champion in the 60-65kg weight class will meet Indonesian fighter.
Fighter Nguyen Van Tri also won Singapore rival at the score of 5-0 in 90-95kg class and will meet Yaacob Khaizul (Malaysian) in the final.
At the class of below 55kg for women, Tran Thi Them won the Singapore rival with the 4-1 score, thereby gaining the right in the semi-finals of August 27 against Indonesian rival. Nguyen Thai Linh also confirmed his bravery of the champion in the weight class of 55-60kg when he won Malaysian rival at 5-0 score. In the final, Nguyen Thai Linh met the fighter of the host country.
Thus, with 20 medals (1 gold medal, 7 silver medals, 12 bronze medals), ended on August 26, the sports team of Vietnam temporarily ranked at 23/45.
On August 27th, Vietnamese athletes will compete in Boxing, Karate, Pencak Silat, Men’s Soccer, Volleyball, Table Tennis. In particular, in the two finals of Pencak Silat, fighter Tran Thi Them (weight class of 50kg – 55kg for women) and Nguyen Thai Linh (weight class of 55kg – 60kg for men) are hoped to win gold medals for the Vietnam sports team.
