In the morning of May 12, the People’s Committee of Ba Dinh District launched the “Building Smoke-Free Schools” movement.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Quang Trung Phát, Vice Chairman of the District People’s Committee highlighted initial positive outcomes of various activities supporting the Smoke-free World Day and the National Smoke-free Week, extensively attracting the attention and engagement of numerous educational officers and staffs as well as students over the past time thanks to the increasing awareness of anti-smoking harm significance among people in the educational environment.
Though a significant decrease in the numbers of smokers can be observed, smoking is, in fact, a common practice among officers and people in the locality. Thus, for more efficient anti-smoking harms, smoking reduction, and smoking-related consequence handling to protect and improve people’s health towards a smoke-free cultivational society, the Vice Chairman requested schools to have the commitment to building smoke-free schools signed, and encouraged schools’ teachers and forces to provide on-going communication, supervision, recommendations, and positive opinions on anti-smoking harms and building a smoke-free environment.

In implementing the movement, the district educational and training disciplines and emulation boards are required to review and evaluated in association with emulation activities of the academic year 2017 – 2018; students should further communicate the movement of a smoke-free environment to all schools in the district.
Also, the Party Committees and People’s Committee of the wards, Fatherland Front, mass association, and people are encouraged to voluntarily follow the movement effectively.
