The Basketball Opening Ceremony at the 10th Phu Dong Sports Festival in 2020 of Hanoi City has the presence of leaders of the sports industry such as Mr. Nguyen Hong Minh, Deputy General Director of the General Department of Sports and Physical Training, Mr. Le Hoang Anh, Permanent Vice Chairman & General Secretary of Vietnam Basketball Federation and leaders of Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports, Hanoi Department of Education and Training and more than 2,000 athletes of 170 teams from high and secondary schools in the capital area.
According to the plan, the tournament will be held between 6 and 20 January 2020. However, because this time coincided with the right time of Tet holidays, the organizers have decided to change on January 2, then will take Tet holiday from 12-16 January and hold the last matches from 17 to 20 January. While the venue of the competition has also changed due to force majeure reasons because Tay Ho District Sports Hall has some events, it is not possible to organize Basketball content of Phu Dong Sports Festival 2019 in Hanoi City; thus, the organizers moved to the Thanh Tri Sports Hall, 20km from the previous place. Among the 170 teams participating in the basketball tournament of Phu Dong Sports Festival, there are 72 male teams and 34 female teams from the high schools, 44 male teams and 20 female teams from the secondary schools. The tournament is a knockout competition, taking place from 2 to 20 January 2020.
A total of 166 basketball matches will be held at the Thanh Tri Sports Hall, which was used to host the Hanoi City Summer Basketball Tournament in June. After this tournament, the best athletes will be selected to represent the Hanoi City to compete in the National Phu Dong Sports Festival held in Nam Dinh in August 2020.
