Vietnamese families have been under significant influence by today’s development tendency, and the social movements and changes , where the nuclear family becomes a popular choice trend, not only for young people.
Most Vietnamese families are now nuclear families – with parents) and their children. The trend of family-nuclearization in Vietnam tends to increase thanks to its strengths and advantages.
First and foremost, nuclear families exist as an independent, compact, flexible unit and quickly adapt to social changes. A nuclear family is independent in terms of economic relation. In a nuclear family, each member has a relatively large free space to develop their personal freedom. Individuality is also enhanced. In modern society, the level of individual independence is considered an indicator of quality of family life. Being developed in family, the individual independence will create specific lifestyle, personality, creativity and identity. Such factors should be converged in the human resources that are necessary for the industrialization and modernization of our Party.
However, the nuclear family also has certain disadvantages. Due to the reduced level of interpersonal relations and the spacial separation between families, the mutual material and spiritual support is limited. Besides, the less influence of generations on each other also reduces the ability to preserve traditional cultural values within the family. However, nuclear family has remained the popular type in our country today especially in industrialized and urbanized societies. It can be seen that this kind of family will also be future option.
In fact, if family is considered the nucleus of society, so nucleus of a family is the children. Children must be the promising future of a wealthy country. In modern society, the level of individual independence is considered an indicator of quality of family life. Personal dignity and quality of each member are also controlled and influenced within a family.
It is clearly determined in the outlook and objectives of Vietnamese Family Building Strategy: Family is one of important factors that determine the sustainable development of a society, the success of the industrialization and modernization of the country and socialist construction. The establishment of Vietnamese prosperous, advanced, equal and happy family with 1-2 children is the motivation of the socio-economic development strategy in the era of industrialization and modernization of the country.
In the context of increasingly strong integration and development, the strengthening of education, conservation and promotion of traditional family values and the acquisition of cultural quintessence of civilized and advanced families in the world is a significant task, contributing to the sustainable socio-economic development.
