Nhi Khe Communal House, located in Nhi Khe Village, Hoang Long Commune, Phu Xuyen District, has a history spanning several centuries. The Communal House is dedicated to the King of the East Sea Doan Thuong, a revered figure believed to have protected the spiritual life of the local people.
Doan Thuong was a general under the Ly Dynasty, originally from Hai Duong Province. In local folklore, he is regarded as Great Prince, one of the Four Palaces of Quan Hoang. Various feudal dynasties conferred upon him the title King of the East Sea Doan Thuong, a high-ranking deity. He is worshipped in many places across the country, including in Nhi Khe Village.
To honor the contributions of Great Prince, the people of Nhi Khe hold annual celebrations in remembrance of his birth – on the 12th day of the August lunar month – and his death anniversary, the 15th day of the July lunar month. Additionally, the village holds a festive ceremony each year to commemorate the flag-raising ceremony of the uprising on the 25th day of the April lunar month.
Nhi Khe Communal House was built many centuries ago, with its most recent restoration occurring during the Nguyen Dynasty. The House still retains many valuable artifacts, including: a horizontal lacquered board, ornamental gates, incense altars, couplets, incense burners, incense bowls, and candle holders.
On August 19, 2024, the Hanoi City People’s Committee issued Decision No. 4320 recognizing Nhi Khe Communal House as a Historical Relic, Hoang Long Commune. On October 20, 2024, the People’s Committee of Hoang Long Commune organized the Ceremony to receive the certificate for Nhi Khe Communal House as a City-level Historical Relic.
