Chuyen My commune, Phu Xuyen district, has been recognized as an Advanced New-style Rural commune in 2023. In 2024, Chuyen My began developing into an Advanced New-style Rural model. The commune chose the health criterion as one of the first two criteria to build an Advanced New-style Rural model. To date, Chuyen My’s healthcare sector has been fully equipped with modern facilities, including the construction of a new two-story building with 14 functional and auxiliary rooms, ultrasound machines, testing machines, quick blood sugar test machines, and a staff of eight healthcare professionals, including one doctor. In the first nine months of 2024, the health station has served over 5,000 visits for medical examination and treatment, etc.

However, when mentioning Chuyen My, a region located along the Red River, people often think of a rural area with a thousand-year-old mother-of-pearl inlay craft. All seven villages in the commune engage in mother-of-pearl inlay, and Phu Vinh village also practices lacquerware. From seemingly useless shells, the artisans of Chuyen My create intricate and beautiful patterns. One of the most important steps in the mother-of-pearl inlay process is “inlaying nacre,” which involves carving wood and embedding decorative materials according to the design.

The inlaid products from Chuyen My’s craft villages are not only consumed domestically but also reach international markets such as the UK, Russia, the USA, the Netherlands, and Japan. The temple of the ancestor of the mother-of-pearl inlay craft, Truong Cong Thanh, is a place where the people of Chuyen My honor him for passing down the craft. This relic was recognized as a cultural and historical site by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism in 1995.

With economic development, the people of Chuyen My also focus on cultural life. Notably, the construction of a cultural house in Thuong village stands out. The people of Thuong village contributed nearly 1.2 billion VND to build a cultural house with a usable area of over 500 square meters. Additionally, painted roads and flower-lined paths, maintained by local organizations and the people of Chuyen My, keep the rural landscape vibrant, clean, and beautiful.

The local arts and sports movement is thriving, with numerous cultural and sports clubs, artistic festivals, and sports competitions, etc.

Particularly in recent years, Chuyen My has concentrated resources on developing craft village tourism. In 2019, the area was recognized as the Chuyen My Mother-of-Pearl Inlay and Lacquerware Craft Village Tourist Destination by the Hanoi City People’s Committee. In 2023, the Hanoi City Department of Industry and Trade acknowledged the model of the Center for Design, Creativity, Introduction, and Promotion of OCOP products and craft villages associated with commune-level tourism, which has been very effective. In 2024, the commune organized 10 training sessions to enhance online sales skills, promote craft village products, and guide organizations and individuals in professional tourism activities and civil behavior towards tourists. Promoting tourism activities has significantly contributed to Chuyen My’s success in implementing the Advanced New-style Rural model development program.
