Works by Nguyen Nghia Dau

At the exhibition, artist Nguyen Nghia Dau presents five lacquer works in a circular shape inscribed within a square, each piece featuring the image of a female figure with soft and delicate curves. Through symbolic representation, he contrasts dark, shapeless depths with fine lines to create an artistic space that is both mysterious and sensual. These works not only celebrate the beauty of Mother Earth but also evoke a poetic and lyrical atmosphere.

Artist Tran Van Duc focuses on themes of festivals and the landscapes of Northern Vietnam, particularly images from highland markets, conical hats, and lotus flowers.

Artist Do Duc Khai is distinguished by his works about the Long Bien Bridge – a symbol of Hanoi. Although not originally from Hanoi, he has been deeply connected with this bridge for many years. Through his works, he expresses nostalgia and the hardworking yet warm spirit of the bridge. His recent works, following an abstract trend, explore deep material and lacquer techniques, opening a promising new direction in artistic creation.

Le Van Khuy presents a series of mixed-media reliefs. Using composite materials along with lacquer techniques, his reliefs feature simplified, tight forms that are either dreamlike and ethereal or filled with happiness in everyday scenes. Le Van Khuy’s works feel as though they were directly inspired by his family photo album. They are unique in material language and intimate in their sincere, rustic emotions.

Nguyen Van Thuat’s paintings maintain a consistent style, depicting the beauty of feminine forms and flowers within a lacquer space where the sky and earth are blended seamlessly, without sharp boundaries. The dreamlike backdrop features harmonious shades of blue, green, and warm reds and oranges. The vibrant floral space dances with graceful female figures, where both flowers and women radiate beauty, overflowing with passion in the eternal dance of the four seasons.

The works in the “Companion” exhibition not only reflect the connection between the artists but also stand as evidence of their individual creative efforts. Each artist follows a distinct path but all share a commitment to developing and renewing traditional art.

The exhibition runs until December 4, 2024.
