In summer, students have much free time to have visits with their grandparents, parents and siblings to the historic sites and scenic spots throughout the country. This is also a way of relaxing for them after the stressful school days and examinations prior to the new school year. On the other hand, sightseeing and tourism are good and useful for students to improve their understanding and compassion for the country, nature, people, and long history and culture of Vietnam
Enjoying cultural activities on Ho Guom walking street in the summer is a gentle but useful learning way for students.
Hanoi, the country’s political and historical centre, is the place where cultural quintessence of all parts of the country is brought together to create the typical beauty of the Vietnamese cultural identity and elegant Trang An people. Hanoi is also home to many important national historical monuments, temples and pagodas worshipping national heroes and talented people, and scenic spots with a system of museums attracting both domestic and foreign visitors. These are the necessary attractions that every student in Hanoi needs to know. Nevertheless, parents and grandparents have not been fully aware of this to help their children understand thoroughly and love the historical monuments of Hanoi such as Turtle Tower, Hoan Kiem Lake, Thang Long Citadel, Temple of Literature, Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, One Pillar Pagoda, Museum of History, Vietnam Museum of Ethnology, etc.
It is a very worthwhile fact to think that a lot of families during the holidays, especially during the summer vacations, prefer taking their children to supermarkets, theatres or restaurants than visiting historical monuments in Hanoi. This is really regrettable because students have little knowledge of Hanoi’s cultures, scenic spots and historical monuments whilst they are Hanoians.
Educating traditional history and culture for students through sightseeing and picnics
Actually, there are multiple attracting and educational choices for students to visit right in Hanoi. Grandparents and parents should be their children’s trusted companion, guiding them on the origins, historical significance, and cultural and aesthetic values of monuments and scenic spots that the children come to. It is certain that Dong Son bronze drums since Hung Vuong dynasty, iron covered timber piles of Ngo Quyen destroying Nam Han enemy’s boats taken from the historic Bach Dang river and epitaphs honoring Doctors of Arts in the Temple of Literature, and so on will forever be the lively, profound and useful lessons of history to help students have a clear mind and spirit to confidently live and devote their talents to the country. It is what we all want, isn’t it?
Hopefully, holidays and summer days associated with relaxing and wonderful picnics and visits will bring joy to all students in school age.
