The Exhibition is organized by the Vietnam Military History Museum in collaboration with the Museum of People’s Public Security, the Military Library and the family of General Vo Nguyen Giap to contribute to the gratitude and honor of great, special and outstanding contributions of General Vo Nguyen Giap to the revolutionary cause of our Party and people; propagandize and educate cadres and soldiers of the armed forces and the people, especially the young generation to actively study and follow the example of General Vo Nguyen Giap, strive to successfully complete all assigned tasks, contributing to the construction and firm defense of the Socialist Vietnamese Fatherland.
Speaking at the opening of the Exhibition, Senior Lieutenant Colonel Le Vu Huy, Director of the Vietnam Military History Museum affirmed: General Vo Nguyen Giap is a leader with great prestige of our Party, State and People; an excellent and close disciple of President Ho Chi Minh; a military genius, the Commander-in-Chief with both scholar and a warrior, the Great Brother of the Vietnam People’s Army; Legendary general, great Culturalist of the nation. Throughout his life, devoted to the revolutionary cause, General Vo Nguyen Giap always shone with his quality of loyalty to the Party, wholeheartedly serving the Fatherland and the people. On the occasion of the General’s 110th birthday, the Vietnam Military History Museum opened the Exhibition of “Legendary General” to honor and pay tribute to General Vo Nguyen Giap’s great contributions to the revolutionary cause of our Party, nation and army.

The Exhibition introduces more than 200 photos, documents and artifacts, including 4 main contents: By the Kien Giang River; Road to revolution; Legendary General; General of the people.
The exhibition with the theme “By the Kien Giang River” displays typical photos and documents about the homeland and family traditions that molded the soul, patriotism, and revolutionary will of General Vo Nguyen Giap.
Part 2 “Road to Revolution”, introduces many photos, documents and artifacts reflecting the young Vo Nguyen Giap’s process of participating in revolutionary activities from 1925-1939; the process of starting his military career from 1940 to the establishment of the Vietnam Propaganda Unit of the Liberation Army on February 22, 1944, and the important contributions of Comrade Vo Nguyen Giap in the victory of the August Revolution in 1945, established the Democratic Republic of Vietnam.
The “Legendary General” is the theme of Part 3, displaying typical photos, documents and artifacts reflecting the great role and special contributions of General and Commander-in-Chief Vo Nguyen Giap in 30 years of the national liberation war, in the cause of building and defending the Socialist Vietnamese Fatherland.
The last part, “The People’s General”, introduces photos, documents and artifacts reflecting the daily life of General Vo Nguyen Giap, the General’s affections for the people, comrades and international friends.
The Exhibition also displays many typical artifacts, associated with the life and career of General Vo Nguyen Giap, including Comrade Vo Nguyen Giap’s pistol used to command the Vietnam Propaganda Unit of the Liberation Army to win the first battle of Phai Khat and Na Ngan on December 24 and 25, 1944; Decree No. 110-SL dated January 20, 1948, of the President of the Government of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam on the promotion of General to Comrade Vo Nguyen Giap; Gold Star Order – the highest award of General Vo Nguyen Giap; Order dated April 7, 1975, of General Vo Nguyen Giap in the historic Ho Chi Minh Campaign; The set of tables and chairs that General Vo Nguyen Giap used to work and welcome compatriots, soldiers, international guests at house number 30 Hoang Dieu, Hanoi…

Coming to the Exhibition of “Legendary General”, the public can review photos, memorabilia and documents reflecting the life, career and special contributions and great merits of General Vo Nguyen Giap in the cause of the struggle for national liberation, construction and defense of the Fatherland. Through the exhibition, contributing to the propaganda and education of cadres and soldiers of the armed forces and the people, especially the young generation, to study and follow the shining example of General Vo Nguyen Giap and make every effort to successfully complete all assigned tasks, contribute to the solid construction and defense of the Socialist Vietnamese Fatherland.
