Family is the foundation of society, the nourishment “cradle”, and the important environment for forming and educating personality of children. Building a prosperous, equal, advanced and happy family is the responsibility of not only each citizen, but also many social departments and organizations.
Considering that families not only play a great role in the formation and development of the society, but also preserve, cultivate and promote precious traditional values of Vietnamese people, on May 4, 2001, the Prime Minister promulgated the Decision No. 72 on choosing June 28 as the Vietnamese Family Day, thereby highlighting the responsibility of leaders of branches, levels, agencies, social organizations and families to contribute to stabilizing, strengthening and building families according to the criteria of few children, prosperity, progress, equality, and happiness.
Today, great attention have been paid to the upbringing and education of children, taking care of emotional needs of family members, focusing on cultural education within a family, participating in the Movement “All people join hands to build a cultural life”, and building a new countryside so as to contribute to maintaining and developing the culture of the social community of clans, villages, nations, and classes.
Vietnamese Family Day is also a celebration day to honor Vietnamese family. This is also a change for family members to care about each other, society to pay special attention to children and orphans, and couples to better understand the family value and overcome difficulties and challenges and build a happy family together.
In response to this important political, social and cultural event, many Ministries, Branches, Industries and social organizations have been coordinating in organizing activities that are relevant to a specific and practical theme in order to strengthen the propaganda and mobilization of people in all walks of life to participate in the movement “Building prosperous, equal, advanced and happy families”.
“Maintaining and promoting good moral principles of Vietnamese family, Highlighting role models of parents, Attaching importance to the construction of cultural families, Establishing close relationships between family, school and society” are the important and frequently-concerned tasks. Many movements have been gradually strengthened such as prevention of domestic violence; prevention of penetration of social evils into families; development of community services; fostering staff capability in terms of family-related work; coordination in the propaganda of prevention of domestic violence, and education of family knowledge in school, etc..
These days, the family-related works and family culture have been facing challenges of the integration process. Although the exchange, opening and integration with advanced culture and civilization of other countries have given Vietnamese people many opportunities and conditions for economic development, the market mechanism has significantly affected family life, and even in some respects, broken rules, tradition and morality of Vietnamese family. Cases of divorce, legal separation, cohabitation without marriage registration have left severe consequences, in many aspects, for family and society. Many social evils have been penetrating into families. There have been growing conflicts between generations in terms of behavior, lifestyle and the elder care. Domestic violence tends to increase significantly to alarming level.
To intensify the propaganda and education, to build Vietnamese families with good cultural and traditional values of the nation, and to affirm family cultural values, etc. this year, on the occasion of Vietnamese Family Day, Hanoi authority will focus on propagandizing the National Action Month on domestic violence prevention; highlighting and affirming the meaning of family meals; organizing parties and meeting for typical cultural families in order to extensively educate the social community on role and importance of family in the society development.
