In the context of celebrating the 70th anniversary of War Invalids’ and Martyrs’ Day (July 27, 1947 – July 27, 2017) by the whole country in general and Hanoi capital in particular, from July 19 to 21, 2017, at Thanh Xuan Center for Culture, Information, and Sports, Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports held the Children’s Book Presenting Contest – Summer of 2017 with the theme “Children of the Capital with the attitude of gratitude to people with merit”.
Special guests attending the contest were Ms. Kieu Thuy Nga – Director of National Library of Vietnam; Mr. Nguyen Huu Gioi – Standing Member of Executive Board of Vietnam Library Association; Mr. Nguyen Khac Loi – Deputy Director of Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports; Mr. Duong Minh Chau – Director of Hanoi Culture Center; and Mr. Tran Van Ha – Director of Hanoi Library.
The contest had primarily been held in districts, towns, communes, wards, and towns in Hanoi City, forming a vibrant and widespread cultural movement. This is an opportunity for children to show their respect and gratitude to the preceding generations who had sacrificed their blood for peace and unity of the country, and to remember the great merits of the heroes, war invalids, martyrs, and families of people with meritorious services to the country in the cause of national liberation and defense. The contest also delivered a rewarding cultural playground for children in the summer, contributing to the development of a reading culture in the community, thereby honoring the value of books and confirming the role and importance of books, newspapers, and libraries in the social life.

The Children’s Book Presenting Contest – Summer of 2017 brought together 26 participating teams. The competing stages were carefully prepared in both content and form. The introduced books followed the theme of the contest and were presented in combination with creative and enticing music, staging, and illustration.
At the end of the Contest, the Organizers awarded 3 excellence prizes to the teams of Hoan Kiem, Dan Phuong, and Son Tay, and 15 first prizes, 8 second prizes, 15 excellent movement awards, and 15 good movement awards to the other participants.
