Accordingly, the Ministry assigned the Department of Cultural Heritage to lead and coordinate with relevant agencies and units to organize two workshops – training sessions to guide the application of TCVN 14167:2024 “Cultural Heritage Preservation – Guidelines and Procedures for Selecting Appropriate Lighting for Indoor Exhibitions” for museums, management boards/centers for preservation/historical sites in the Northern region (from Quang Tri northward) and the Southern region (from Thua Thien Hue southward).

The purpose of organizing the workshops – training sessions is to disseminate and guide the application of TCVN 14167:2024 “Cultural Heritage Preservation – Guidelines and Procedures for Selecting Appropriate Lighting for Indoor Exhibitions” for museums and historical sites to ensure the long-term protection of artifacts and meet exhibition requirements. The sessions will update knowledge and enhance professional skills related to selecting appropriate lighting for indoor exhibitions at museums and historical sites. They also aim to provide opportunities for staff directly involved in museum work, management boards/centers for preservation/historical sites to exchange and share experiences, strengthen coordination, and closely link professional work between localities to resolve difficulties and obstacles in applying TCVN 14167:2024 “Cultural Heritage Preservation – Guidelines and Procedures for Selecting Appropriate Lighting for Indoor Exhibitions.” Additionally, they will propose amendments, supplements, or new content not yet included in the regulations and suggest solutions to enhance effectiveness and efficiency during the application process of the Vietnamese Standards

The training content includes activities such as announcing the Vietnamese Standard (TCVN) and guiding its application in practical activities; introducing the content of TCVN 14167:2024 “Cultural Heritage Preservation – Guidelines and Procedures for Selecting Appropriate Lighting for Indoor Exhibitions”; guiding the application of TCVN 14167:2024 “Cultural Heritage Preservation – Guidelines and Procedures for Selecting Appropriate Lighting for Indoor Exhibitions”; and practical application of TCVN 14167:2024 “Cultural Heritage Preservation – Guidelines and Procedures for Selecting Appropriate Lighting for Indoor Exhibitions.”
The workshop content includes discussions on the role of artificial lighting in museum exhibitions; the importance of establishing cultural heritage preservation standards in lighting conditions; the aesthetic impact of lighting on the effectiveness of artifact exhibitions in museums; lighting and artifact preservation – requirements and solutions for applying current TCVNs; selecting and rotating artifacts in museum exhibitions to meet the lighting requirements of TCVNs; analyzing lighting requirements for different types of artifacts, focusing on the characteristics of materials, colors, and sensitivity to light; designing lighting arrangements – methods for direct and indirect lighting, diffused light, and color temperature control techniques to protect cultural heritage; and applying modern technology in cultural heritage preservation through lighting.
Additionally, the program includes visits and experience-sharing activities at several museums and historical sites in Thai Nguyen and Ho Chi Minh City.
The workshops – training sessions are expected to be held over three days in Thai Nguyen and three days in Ho Chi Minh City in December 2024.
