The National Cai Luong Festival 2024 took place from October 25 to November 15 at the Can Tho City Cultural Center.
The event was organized by the Department of Performing Arts (Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism), in coordination with the Vietnam Association of Stage Artists, the Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism of Can Tho City, and relevant units. The festival brought together more than 1,000 artists, actors, and musicians from 29 art troupes with 33 outstanding performances.
As a result, four plays were awarded the Outstanding Award (Gold Medal). The Hanoi Cai Luong Theater won the Outstanding Award for the play Xuan Huong Poetess. The script was written by Nguyen Duc Minh, directed by People’s Artist Hoang Quynh Mai, with set design by People’s Artist Nguyen Dat Tang and music by People’s Artist Hoang Anh Tu. The play Xuan Huong Poetess portrays the turbulent life and exceptional talent of poetess Xuan Huong, known as the “Queen of Nom Poetry” in Vietnam, including her time in Thang Long and the Nguyet Hoa Tower. The roles and traditional vong co singing were excellently performed by the artists of the Hanoi Cai Luong Theater, captivating the audience.

The play Xuan Huong Poetess
The Hanoi Cai Luong Theater also won individual outstanding awards for scriptwriter Nguyen Duc Minh and musician People’s Artist Hoang Anh Tu. The theater’s artists who received Gold Medals include Artist Thien Huong and Meritorious Artist Quang Thanh. Silver Medals were awarded to Meritorious Artists Thai Van and Tuan An, among others.
This remarkable achievement reflects the collective effort and dedication of the management, artists, actors, musicians, and staff of the Hanoi Cai Luong Theater in recent times.
