With the message “Go More Green”, the Ministry of Industry and Trade officially launched the Earth Hour campaign in 2018 – the largest and most participatory social event in the world. The Earth Hour campaign is organized for the purpose of mobilizing the community, businesses and the whole society to carry out activities on energy saving and efficiency, environmental protection and response to the global climate changes.
The plan aims to raise public awareness on energy conservation, environmental protection, climate change adaptation and to move towards a low-carbon economy; mobilize the volunteerism of organizations and individuals to participate in the Earth Hour campaign and take action during the next period to save energy and protect the environment; coordinated by the Ministry of Industry and Trade to communicate the message “Go More Green” on the mass media; and launch the Earth Hour campaign in 2018 from 8.00 to 11.00 on March 3, 2018 at Ly Thai To Flower Garden, Hoan Kiem District.
Communicate and mobilize agencies, organizations, schools, enterprises, families and residential areas to participate in activities to respond to the Campaign by turning off lights and unused electrical equipment for an hour (from 8.30 to 9.30 pm) on March 24, 2018. Organize volunteer groups to cycle, jog to communicate to the public; organize contests themed energy saving and environmental protection. Through the socio-political organizations, the broadcasting system, the neighborhood meetings to communicate the Earth Hour campaign to the wards, communes, townships, residential quarters and individual households.
The Government will switch off the lights, decorative lights, and billboards for one hour at the famous places, some public areas, streets of Hanoi City.
The main ceremony of the Earth Hour campaign in 2018 took place at August Revolution Square from 8.30 to 9.30 pm on March 24th 2018, including ensuring political security, social order and safety, traffic safety across the city; especially at the places of lights turned off and event organization, ensuring practical, effective implementation, not cursory and waste.
Sideline activities include turning off all lights, decorative lights and billboards for one hour at famous places, some public areas, streets in Hanoi City such as Ngoc Son Temple – Tortoise Tower (Thap Rua) – The Huc Bridge, Ly Thai To Flower Garden around the Ho Guom, Hanoi Opera House, Truc Bach Lake; head offices such as City Party Committee, People’s Council, People’s Committee; offices of the city departments, sectors. Districts, towns shall select a public spot in the area to switch off lights (except hospitals, manufacturing plants, traffic lights, street lights, lighting equipment for security and safety in the City’s important areas).
Departments, committees, branches and the People’s Committees of districts, towns and related units participated in the response to the Earth Hour campaign shall turn off all lights at the head offices, units for one hour from 8.30 to 9.30 pm on March 24, 2018.
