Attending the Festival were members of the Standing Committee of the Hanoi City Party Committee: Permanent Vice Chairman of the City People’s Committee Le Hong Son, Chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the City Nguyen Lan Huong; Vice Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Elderly Association Phan Van Hung and many members of the Hanoi Elderly Association.

Speaking at the ceremony, Permanent Vice Chairman of the City People’s Committee Le Hong Son emphasized that the Cultural and Sports Festival for the Elderly for the cause of building and developing the Capital in 2024 is a meaningful activity to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Liberation of the Capital and the 25th anniversary of Hanoi being honored by UNESCO as a “City for Peace”. The organizers believe that through the Festival, the Associations of the Elderly of districts, towns and cities will meet, exchange, enhance mutual understanding, promote the fine traditions and humanistic values ​​of the elegant, graceful and affectionate capital city.

The Festival is an activity to celebrate the success of the 10th National Congress of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, the International Day of the Elderly (October 1, 1991 – October 1, 2024), respond to the Month of Action for the Elderly in 2024; honor the contributions and dedication of generations of elderly people to their families, society and community; promote the movement of physical training following the example of great Uncle Ho throughout the city.

Over the years, health training activities have attracted a large number of elderly people in the city; 30/30 districts, towns and cities have developed models of sports clubs for the elderly, outdoor health clubs for the middle-aged and elderly, the rate of elderly people participating in regular physical exercise has reached over 70%. The Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports has coordinated with the City’s Association of the Elderly to actively care for the health and mental life of members as well as the movement of physical exercise in the elderly community of the city.

 The mass performances of the elderly in Hanoi created a jubilant atmosphere at the Festival.

The highlight of the Festival was the mass performance of the continuous exercise in the music background “Healthy for the country” and “Oh Vietnam” by 2,100 members of the City’s Association of the Elderly. Along with that, there were the performances by the City’s Outdoor Health Association for the Middle-aged and Elderly with the participation of 900 people, such as martial arts with 130 participants; Tai Chi with 210 participants, etc.

Outdoor Fitness Festival and Senior Sports Tournament are annual activities in the sports development plan of Hanoi city. Through the Festival program, the Organizing Committee hopes that members of the City’s Association of the Elderly, the Hanoi and Vietnam community of the Elderly will continue to promote traditions and shine the humanistic values ​​of the nation.
