In order to restore and develop the traditional sports of the nation, to create highlights to attract visitors to come to the Hanoi capital, to create momentum for the development of aquatic sports, the Hanoi City People’s Committee collaborated with the Vietnam Airlines Corporation to organize the Hanoi expansion dragon boat festival 2018 on February 24, 2018 (the ninth day of the Lunar New Year) at the Tay Lake. It is one of the activities to concretize the cooperation agreement between the Hanoi City People’s Committee and Vietnam Airlines in the field of Culture, Sports and Tourism Development.
Dragon boat festival takes place along the Thanh Nien street at 10:00 in the ninth of Lunar New Year.

Hanoi City and Vietnam Airline also aim at developing the dragon boating activity into a all-year activity, contributing to promoting and introducing the image of the capital with the long history of civilization to international friends and visitors.
Hanoi Expansion Dragon boat festival 2018 is expected to attract dự kiến thu hút 27 teams from the districts of Hanoi and other provinces with more than 400 athletes from teams of Hoang Mai, Bac Tu Liem, Chuong My, My Duc, Thanh Oai, Ba Vi. , Son Taydistrict and dragon boat clubs in the provinces and cities including Hanoi, Hai Duong, Hung Yen, Thai Nguyen. The teams compete in two categories: standard and traditional dragon boat race. Each category consists of 3 contents: for only Male, for only Female and for Male – Female coordination, competing on the 60m water surface race.

According to Mr. To Van Dong – Director of Hanoi Department of Culture and Information, “It is the first time when Hanoi City organizes Dragon boat Festival at Tay Lake with the desire of changing Tay Lake into one of the attractive destinations of Hanoi. Therefore, we will continue to study, adjust, supplement and listen to other opinions so that dragon boat festival becomes an annual and all-year activity and as a unique brand of Hanoi”.
In addition to the main activity of boat racing on the lake, there are ancillary activities such as cultural and art programs at the Ly Tu Trong Flower Garden, boat riders’ parade and some of other water sports, parade by high-capacity motorcycles and ancient bicycles… Hanoi Expansion Dragon boat festival 2018 starts from 10:00 to 15:00 on February 24, 2018 and welcome all people and visitors free-of-charge.
