On the morning of December 10, 2023, at Thanh Am Primary School, the Long Bien District Women’s Union organized a communication program in response to the “Action Month for Gender Equality and Gender-Based Violence Prevention and Response 2023.”

The event aimed to rally officials, union members, women in Long Bien District, and the community to collectively combat violence, and abuse against women and children, and enhance empowerment for women and girls, contributing to ensuring substantive gender equality.
Speaking at the program, Ms, Dao Thu Hai, Chairwoman of the Long Bien District Women’s Union, stated: As a representative socio-political organization, responsible for safeguarding the legal and just rights and interests of women and children, the Long Bien District Women’s Union has effectively implemented the directives of the City Party Committee, the City People’s Council, and the City People’s Committee regarding the promotion of gender equality and the progress of women in various fields. Simultaneously, the Union actively implemented initiatives and programs, closely coordinating with departments, committees, sectors, and the Progress for Women Committee to carry out communication activities and training to raise awareness among union members, women, and the public about the prevention of domestic violence and the protection against the abuse of women and children. The Union has also established new initiatives, enhanced the quality of interdisciplinary models addressing social issues related to women, and community-based models for building happy families and creating a safe and friendly residential community for women and children, encouraging community participation and engaging men in these efforts. Additionally, the Union has signed cooperation programs with agencies and units supporting women in enhancing economic empowerment, preventing violence and abuse, and protecting the legal and just rights and interests of women and children.

Actively responding to the “Action Month for Gender Equality and Gender-Based Violence Prevention and Response 2023” under the theme “Ensuring Social Security, Empowering Women and Creating Opportunities for Women and Girls to Achieve Gender Equality and Eliminate Gender-Based Violence,” Ms. Dao Thu Hai, on behalf of the Standing Committee of the Long Bien District Women’s Union, proposed several key focal points for women’s unions at various levels in Long Bien District:
Women’s unions at all levels should continue to advise party committees and authorities and coordinate with departments, committees, and organizations to extensively disseminate the theme and messaging of the action, eliminating violence against women and children. Actively implement initiatives and plans on gender equality, prevention and response to violence, and harassment against women and children to raise awareness among officials, union members, women, and the general public.
Organize specialized activities, seminars, and forums on gender equality, combating violence, and harassment against women and children, aligned with the movement of building families with “ 5 Good and 3 Clean Criteria” and the model “5 Yes and 3 Clean,” with a focus on the criterion of families without violence, having a safe home, and sustainable livelihoods. Promote the campaign “Building Graceful, Innovative, Reliable, and Elegant Capital Women,” and actively invite men, reputable individuals in the community, and women’s groups with limited access to information to participate.

Proactively propose and organize meetings and dialogues on gender equality and social security. Deliver love and gifts to women and children facing difficult circumstances. Actively participate in monitoring the implementation of laws and policies on gender equality, domestic violence prevention, and children’s rights. Timely identify, speak up, and propose that authorities and functional departments handle cases of violence and harassment against women and children strictly. Provide support to victims to access assistance services, ensuring the legal and just rights and interests of women and children.
Responding to the initiative, Mr. Pham Hoai Nam, Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Phuc Loi Ward, stated: To successfully implement the “Gender Equality and Prevention of Gender-Based Violence Action Month 2023,” the leadership of Phuc Loi Ward commits to harnessing the strength of the entire political system, party committees, authorities, the MTTQ Committee, and political-social organizations, the Committee for the Progress of Women in the commune. Based on the specific conditions of the locality, we will build and organize the implementation of specific activities during the action month at the local level, ensuring practicality and effectiveness.

The Chairwoman of the Women’s Union of Phuc Dong Ward, Nguyen Thi Tuyet Lap, stated that the Women’s Union of Phuc Dong Ward will actively participate in the program through specific activities. These include promoting gender equality, preventing violence, and protecting women and children by implementing the emulation movement “Building Graceful, Innovative, Reliable, and Elegant Capital Women,” the campaign “Capital Women Behaving Beautifully,” the City’s Code of Conduct, the campaign to build families with “5 Good and 3 Clean Criteria,” and the 4T model implementing the Family Code of Conduct: “Smart Consumption – Safe Refrigerator – Steady Steering Wheel – Happy Family.” Emphasis will be placed on the criterion “Happy Family” to contribute to the construction of a cultured, civilized, happy family, thereby providing comprehensive development opportunities and conditions for women and children. Building and improving the quality of activities in models that enhance empowerment for women and girls, attracting the participation of men and reputable individuals in the community, families, and schools. Timely detection, speaking up, proposing to authorities and functional departments to strictly handle cases of violence and harassment against women and children, supporting victims in accessing assistance services, and ensuring the legal and just rights and interests of women and children.

Nguyen Yen Phuong, an 8A1 student at Thanh Am Secondary School in Long Bien District, shared: Through communication campaigns, school learning, the Women’s Union organization, and various media outlets, we are aware of the global and domestic situation of violence against women and girls, which has caused serious consequences to the health, mental well-being, and lives of women and girls. Therefore, I hope that fellow students and delegates present at the program will strongly spread the message “Ensuring social security, empowering women, and creating opportunities for women and girls to achieve gender equality and eliminate gender-based violence,” which is the action motto of each person to contribute to building a civilized, progressive, equal, and sustainable society.
