The Hanoi Open Dragon Boat Race 2024 is part of the celebration program for the 70th Anniversary of the Liberation of the Capital (October 10, 1954 – October 10, 2024) in Hanoi.

In his opening speech, Mr. Do Dinh Hong, Director of Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports and Head of the Organizing Committee, stated that after five years of organizing, the dragon boat race has become a familiar event eagerly awaited by sports enthusiasts every year, attracting numerous domestic and international organizations to participate. In districts, towns, and cities, the practice and competition of dragon boat race during local festivals and events have grown significantly.

This year’s event attracted nearly 800 coaches and athletes from 40 countries, regions, organizations, and domestic units. The race featured 48 dragon boat teams, including: 7 international teams and international airlines; 8 teams from embassies and international organizations in Vietnam; 7 professional dragon boat teams from provinces and cities; 8 teams from clubs, organizations, and enterprises in Hanoi; and 18 teams of male and female rowers from Hanoi’s districts, towns, and cities.
The competition is divided into 6 categories, with races held at a distance of 500 meters (with a 250-meter turning buoy), including mixed men’s and women’s dragon boats from international teams, teams from embassies and international organizations in Vietnam, teams from provinces and cities across the country, clubs, organizations, enterprises, and universities in Hanoi, and male and female dragon boat teams from Hanoi’s districts and towns.

Intense Racing on the Water
Following the opening ceremony, there were exciting and impressive water sports displays at the West Lake water racecourse, featuring dragon boats, sailboats, SUP, kayaks, SKY, and motorized inflatable boats from sports clubs and teams participating in the event.

The Hanoi Open Dragon Boat Race 2024 took place over one day. In the afternoon of October 13, the final races and awards ceremony were held.
