In the evening of November 11, 2022, at the walking street of Hoan Kiem lake and adjacent areas, Hanoi People’s Committee in collaboration with Vietnam Association of Architects held the opening ceremony of Hanoi Creative Design Festival 2022. The event was accompanied by the UNESCO Representative Office in Hanoi, the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT), Vietnam Handicraft Exporters Association, and the Hanoi Promotion Agency, etc.
Attending Hanoi Creative Design Festival 2022 was Mr. Chu Xuan Dung, Vice Chairman of Hanoi People’s Committee; Mr. Christan Manhart, Head of UNESCO Representative in Vietnam; Mr. Bui Hoai Son, Permanent Member, Committee on Culture and Education of the National Assembly; Mr. Ta Quang Dong, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism; together with representatives of central ministries, departments and agencies; ambassadors, heads of diplomatic missions, international organizations, artists, entrepreneurs in the field of creative design…

Opening the festival, Mr. Do Dinh Hong, Director of Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports, said that Hanoi is the national political-administrative center, the center of culture, science, education and international transactions, playing an important role in the history and development of Vietnam. There are few capitals in the world that have a combination of historical and cultural values like Hanoi, with a rich and diverse cultural heritage treasure of 5,922 relics, 1,793 intangible cultural heritage and 1,350 craft villages. In particular, Hanoi is one of the cities having a golden population structure, with a large creative community of designers, artists, creative entrepreneurs. Over the years, Hanoi has always been active in linking and cooperating with provinces and cities in the country, while maintaining and developing international cooperation relationships, gradually strengthening and expanding foreign relations, cultural diplomacy and cooperation exchanges with cities and capitals in the world, especially those that are members of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network.
“In particular, in order to fulfill the commitment with UNESCO when joining the Creative Cities Network, Hanoi has implemented many activities associated with promoting the creative tradition of the Thang Long – Hanoi people which has been combined from more than a thousand years of history with the promotion of the development of new cultural values in the programs of culture-socio-economic development; actively and persistently implementing Resolution No. 09-NQ/TU of the City Party Committee about “On the development of cultural industry in the capital in the period 2021-2025, orientation to 2030, vision to 2045″, creating positive and clear movements throughout the city”, Mr. Do Dinh Hong emphasized.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr. Christan Manhart, Head of UNESCO Office in Vietnam, was pleased to join hands with the leaders of Hanoi city in organizing the Festival of Creative Design. Christan Manhart affirmed that “Hanoi with its outstanding cultural heritage and a lot of creative people, possesses enormous potential to use creativity as a catalyst for socio-economic development. Since becoming a member of UNESCO Creative Cities Network in Design in 2019, Hanoi has steadily expanded its horizons to become a creative capital and built a dynamic cultural industry through inclusive initiatives and public-private partnerships. The Creative Design Festival is a platform for talents from all walks of life to come together to collaborate and grow. With a variety of activities such as displays, exhibitions, workshops, art performances, etc., the festival is a great opportunity to connect people, to celebrate the achievements of creativity, it is also a way to contribute to the sustainable development of the city.”

Hanoi Creative Design Festival 2022 is held from November 11 to November 20, 2022 with the theme “Creativity and technology”. The festival is an impressive cultural space with diverse and creative designed products and typical intangible cultural heritage performed by artisans, artists, artists and cultural lovers of the capital.

According to the evaluation of the Organizing Board, Hanoi Creative Design Festival 2022 is held with the largest scale ever, bringing together 25 art creative spaces with nearly 50 activities of visiting, experiencing, interacting in the form of exhibitions, displays, arrangements, talk shows, seminars, artistic performances… Along with that, there are the participation of nearly 50 artists participating in exhibitions, arrangements, displays; nearly 300 artists participating in performances; nearly 50 creative units, organizations and communities; nearly 30 speakers participating in seminars, in-depth workshops… and millions of interactive approaches on mass media channels. In addition, in order to honor, promote and arouse creative design resources in Hanoi, within the framework of the festival, the Organizing Board launched a number of creative design competitions for young creators, in order to encourage the participation of young people in the design of the future city space, such as: Dream House Competition; Rapid Design Competition – Preserving and promoting the factory heritage; Photo Competition for youth, Hanoi with a different perspective, etc.
Through this event, Hanoi called on the whole People of the Capital to join forces to build Hanoi – from the City for Peace to the UNESCO Creative City.
