The Director of the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports, Do Dinh Hong, delivered the opening speech at the event.
Attending the opening ceremony were the following distinguished guests: Nguyen Hong Minh – Deputy Director of the Sports Authority of Vietnam; Do Dinh Hong – Director of the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports; and Pham Xuan Tai – Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports.
In his opening remarks, Director Do Dinh Hong shared that the 2024 National Fencing Championship has gathered 200 athletes from eight teams representing provinces, cities, and organizations across the country, including Bac Ninh, the People’s Police, Hanoi, Hai Duong, Hai Phong, Quang Ninh, Thanh Hoa, and Ho Chi Minh City. The athletes are competing in 15 events. In individual events, fencers will compete in men’s and women’s epee, men’s and women’s foil, and men’s and women’s sabre.
The organizing committee presented flowers and commemorative flags to the participating units.
The championship provides an excellent opportunity for fencers nationwide to compete, exchange experiences, and improve their skills. It also serves to further promote the practice of international fencing. Additionally, through the tournament, selectors can assess training quality and identify outstanding athletes to represent the national fencing team in preparation for the 33rd SEA Games in Thailand in 2025.
The competition has attracted 200 athletes from eight provincial, municipal, and organizational teams.
Following the opening ceremony, several final matches took place. Among them was the men’s foil final, which saw an internal competition between two Ho Chi Minh City athletes, Nguyen Phuoc Den and Truong Tran Nhat Minh. As expected, national team fencer Nguyen Phuoc Den won the match with a 15-12 victory over Truong Tran Nhat Minh, securing the Gold Medal.

Phung Thi Khanh Linh won the Gold Medal in women’s sabre.
Nguyen Phuoc Den claimed the Gold Medal in men’s foil.
In the women’s sabre final, Hanoi’s Phung Thi Khanh Linh triumphed convincingly, defeating Do Thi Tam from Hai Phong with a 15-10 score to win the Gold Medal.
The 2024 National Fencing Championship takes place from October 21 to October 28.
