On February 16, Tay Ho district held the ceremony to award the title “Hanoi Traditional Craft Village” to Phu Thuong traditional sticky rice craft village.
The traditional sticky rice craft village of Phu Thuong, Tay Ho, Hanoi was established a long time ago. Phu Thuong ward mainly include households specializing in making sticky rice. At present, there are 463 sticky rice making households with 1,001 people in working age, in which some households only trades in small stalls, other households service wedding parties, funerals, and other events. In the village, there have been some big dealers specializing in selling raw materials such as sticky rice, green beans, peanuts, sesame, corn, etc. Every day, the village consumes nearly 7 tons of sticky rice as raw materials. Phu Gia village often holds sticky rice cooking competition on occasion of village’s festival every year. Food hygiene and safety is one of the most important criteria for the participants. On the yearly basis, the ward organizes a training course on food hygiene and safety for households engaged in cooking sticky rice. 100% of the households registered to strictly comply with the regulations on food hygiene and safety.
Phu Thuong Sticky Rice Craft Village honors to be awarded the title
Over time, as expected by Phu Thuong people, on December 30, 2016, Phu Thuong traditional sticky rice craft village was officially recognized as a ” Hanoi traditional craft village” under the Decision No. 7286/QD-UBND made by Hanoi City People’s Committee. The recognition aims to speed up the process of building and developing the craft village, promote the development of production, enhance the competitiveness and adaptation to the integration process, helping the ward to maintain the title of cultural ward and successfully build the Ward under “Urban Civilization Standard”.The development of Phu Thuong sticky rice craft village over time has adapted to the industrialization and modernization of our country and kept up with the changing rhythm of the times. As a result, Phu Thuong sticky rice craft village has created certain value. In particular, the production value from traditional sticky rice cooking of Phu Thuong ward was VND 77,352 billion (accounting for 60.6%), VND 79,545 billion (accounting for 60.7%), and VND 81,455 billion (accounting for 60.9%) in 2013, 2014, and 2015, respectively. Thanks to this traditional dish, specialized households in Phu Thuong now have stable income, with their life improved, and the general economy growth. Many residents become richer. Phu Thuong sticky rice consuming market is mainly in urban and suburban areas.
Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Secretary of Tay Ho District Party Committee Nguyen Anh Tuan acknowledged and congratulated the efforts of the Party Committee, Authority and people of Phu Thuong ward. “With their wisdom and hard work, Phu Thuong people have created a kind of traditional specialty that is sold throughout Hanoi over time. This is a great honor, a recognition of merit and effort of the people here over years and over generations who work so hard to make a wonderful product from small grains of rice” said the Deputy Secretary. He requested Phu Thuong traditional sticky rice craft village to continue to maintain and promote such tradition. Accordingly, the Deputy Secretary also wishes that the Association of Handicraft Village and Association of Skilled Artisans will continue to support Phu Thuong people in establishing an association of Phu Thuong artisans and honor the good artisans of the village. Besides, the district leader also expected the Party Committee, the Authority and the people of Phu Thuong ward to continue investing in improving village roads and streets, and strictly comply with environmental sanitation regulations, as well as come up with new ideals to promote Phu Thuong sticky rice’ image and brand.
